Re: Small waves in spring but bigger in autumn

There's a huge change in water's viscosity between zero-ish and 20 degrees C. The difference between 10 and 20 is about a 30 percent decrease. This certainly could be a major factor in wave height vs. wind during different seasons of the year.

Re: Small waves in spring but bigger in autumn

Never thought about it before, but it makes sense. It also rings true from my observations. Right now we're getting nice wave heights with 20-25 mph wind. In the Spring we don't get those waves with the same wind. Also in the Spring we have some locations where there isn't enough wind to launch a ki...

Re: omg hilarious

   I thought it was the other way around--global winds are getting stronger because butterflies are flapping their wings harder to keep cool!

Re: Poll: Seat or waist harness for learning?

I agree with the comment about body type. That's probably the primary determinant. Second to that is whether they're a windsurfing convert who has "grown up" using a seat harness or waist harness, or has used a harness for rock climbing, catamaran sailing, etc. Then it's based on what they're used t...

Re: Garmin Fenix

I use a Garmin Forerunner 225, and it does what I wanted it to do. HR is pretty accurate if you tighten the wrist strap a lot. I wore it while on a treadmill at my cardiologist visit, and the stats were very close to what they were getting on the EKG. They were impressed at the accuracy. Me too. It'...

Re: Airush Sector 66 Water Start Difficulty

I think when learning to use my Sector 60 V1 I grabbed a rear footstrap with one hand and put my front foot in a strap. Then I used toe/heel pressure to bring the board vertical enough to get my back foot in the strap, and away I went. I'm not sure why people are saying it's easier to get going if y...

Re: Landing a good jump help

Yup. I'm a 65 year old kid. Not old at all (even though I know only one kiter who's older than me). I do take it a bit easy when I ride, mostly 'cause I want to keep my body young.

Re: Board tracker?

I got a Go-Joe after my board took its long trip by itself. It worked well for spotting my board from a distance--didn't need it for help in retrieving the board. The issue with spotting the board when separated from it by a considerable distance was the issue. The board and fins were the same color...

Board tracker?

Does anyone make a tracking device that is waterproof enough to put on your board? Something that would be useful in finding a lost board would be really nice for a variety of people and conditions. The technology is clearly there, but is the product? Most of us would have no need of such a thing un...

Re: Illegal Kiting

I've seen that law, but never heard of anybody trying to enforce it for kiters. There are plenty of kite spots that are well within 5 miles of an airport. I tend to think that "moored" is the operative word that lets us off the hook.
