Re: Crazy idea or possible future hydrofoil hover board desi

I think the fact that you need a rigid mast kinda screws the whole idea. I can think of a lot of other reasons why it wouldn't work but I think that is probably the single biggest reason. Plus your mast actually functions as one of your control surfaces so eliminating it may not be a good thing. hav...

Re: Cabrinha 2016 bar?

recoil is still nice for people who have short arms. I have some trim lite bars and some recoil bars. I think they are both nice. I still like the low maintenance aspect of the recoil design though. For those of you that have had issues with the flagging line getting stuck, try wrapping your lines d...

tons of weeds in the water hooking on my surf fins, small mushy waves, riding a 10m when it was more like 6m. super gusty and raining. still a blast though. I love this stuff!

Re: how much would you pay for a "good" kite knife?

Do you think you could work this into some kind of wrist band, like a watch? Hook is hidden when not in use, you twist some wheel or something to get the hook in position for cutting? That's a cool idea! I think for this initial design I want to stay away from moving parts to keep costs down and av...

Re: how much would you pay for a "good" kite knife?

titanium doesn't hold an edge well and dyneema lines need a good sharp blade. I was thinking 440C stainless for the material. made out of one piece of metal with possibly some G10 or paracord for grip. no aluminum or carbon fiber to react with the stainless in saltwater. :) I have found after losing...

Re: how much would you pay for a "good" kite knife?

what if I could incorporate a large exposed serrated edge in addition to a hook that couldn't cut skin but could cut large kelp?

I got some inspiration from kitchen lettuce knives. Some of them are advertised as kid safe. cuts veggies but not your arm. Seems like that could work really good on kelp.

Re: how much would you pay for a "good" kite knife?

if you have never been upside down under water thinking you are going to die and all you can think is air, teabagging at 20mph, can't see a thing, well then you might overestimate just how important a knife is. #1 Quick release. Practice it. make sure it works #2 Leash release. Practice it. make su...

Re: how much would you pay for a "good" kite knife?

what do you guys think of these?

the first one is a folding hook that would probably go in a webbing sheath.

the second one is a fixed blade that would come with a kydex sheath.

both are spendy. e.g. $50-90 range.

Re: how much would you pay for a "good" kite knife?

I picked up one of these recently. It seems pretty good. I think the key in this video is every cut is made on something straight and tensioned. it seems to struggle on untensioned kite line (e.g. in a hook and then pull for tension scenario as opposed to a chopping/sweeping scenario on taught lines...
