Re: Why some kiters lie about wave size ???

who cares what surfers think, so what if they have this diabolic measurement system, just call the wave how big it looks when you are riding it. surfers go ahead and keep your weirdo measurement system, but you can't force me or other sensible kiters to use it Maybe one day if I pick up surfing . . ...

Re: Michigan or Hatteras???

Yah, just to clarify, if it's the same distance, and the same cost (hatty is dirt cheap this time of year) AND you've never been there, go to hatteras. But as a consolation prize, MI is beautiful. Metro is 30min for me, Tawas 3 hrs. Salvo is 15 hours. Sigh. tawas is beautiful pristine on clear lake...

Will Barton wrote:4ft = head and a half size, my favourite surfing size.
6 ft = double head height = big, okay if wave is not too heavy, too big for me if heavy.
8 ft = huge, too big for me surfing wise

Measuring from the front is silly....
how big is teahupoo ? it's flat, unless you measure the face.

Re: Kite Life?

Yeah, well the canopy itself is showing some age as well. Basically, I'm just wondering if most people switch their main kites out annually. aeberl - I agree, it's a small price to pay, especially considering when something breaks it could end in a trip to the ER. who can afford to buy new kites ev...

Re: Last kite standing in long lull?

Basically, if you have the kite at 12 and the wind goes to zero immediately, which kite will stay up the longest? (stop focusing on kiting skill or different lulls, or foils) try line extensions. sounds like you have problems with rotors, wind shadows, maybe an inland lake, or poor wind direction, ...

Re: Some safety questions

I meant when it hits the water, I am most worried about gusting because that happens at my spot sometimes. What is the best way to recover the kite? I dont want to launch in fear of hot launching it. do your standard self rescue, the wind drops so the kite falls out of the sky, so you hit your safe...

Re: Michigan or Hatteras???

what sojopo said. we have a lot of interesting spots, and we get some wind, lake superior, lake huron, lake michigan, lake erie, lake st clair, 4 times more coast line than california. but even with over 3,000 miles of coastline hatteras is just better. We do have plenty of variety that part is nice.

Re: how do I loop the kite

That may sound simple but I don't really get it. I want to do a down turn or a simple transition jump ending in a loop. How do I go about trying it without ripping my arms off? I've only tried the down turn... I don't really understand where my kite should be when I start the loop and I just get ya...

Re: safest control bar / depower system?

If your name begins with Len and ends in 10 then you can manage almost any situation... but if you are older, maybe not a hulk of muscles, maybe not fastest reflexes you may be better off with a 5th line. 5th is not perfect but a good compromise methinks. exactly what i meant, these 5th line argume...

Re: safest control bar / depower system?

Thus, my question: is there any "safer" control bar/ depower system than others? . short answer is no, they are all very good, very safe, best cabrinha slingshot ozone north naish it doesnt matter all kites are safe now. Until 2006 kites did not have decent depower or safety, some older kites had n...
