Re: Building a hydrofoil

That N66-012 in the link above looks like it could be made Strong and Stiff with little weight , because of the Thickness distribution ; i'll need to ask around if it would work in water, or the NACA-0012 would work just fine. That profile looks like it will work well in water (looks like a laminar...

Re: Wave Kite blues

I suspect that the more a kite is dedicated to waves, the more it has to sacrifice low end, but maybe I am wrong. I actually prefer riding underpowered, which means getting a surfbaord that is better in light wind might be another option to consider. A bigger board also get more energy out of the wa...

Re: Blade Kiteboarding has a brand new kite - MIST

Why do kite graphics designers always migrate towards having skulls on the products? Do people like skulls? I really dislike them, I didn't like it on my Crossbow kite long ago, and now I even found a small one on my new wetsuit! I liked the graphics of the last blade vertigo much more. It was uniqu...

Re: Tacking and gybing advice please

I find gybing a foilbaord easier than my surfboard. You must just get used to the way the foil will hold the board and stop it sliding like a surfboard. Start by putting the board down, and keep your weight to the front of the board to avoid it popping up. Then you can slowly turn around and swap yo...

Re: Proposed IKA Foilboard Class Rules! Rise up against this

You guys in San Fransisco set a very good example of how racing should be. You just go out and do it and forget about IKA. I think it is because of your successful racing scene that kite racing originally became big, and because of your racers taking up foils that foilboarding suddenly got worldwide...

Re: Proposed IKA Foilboard Class Rules! Rise up against this

Wow Stefaans, you must feel very strongly about it. I think most riders agree, the IKA should just leave out most (if not all) equipment restrictions. The normal argument for having equipment restrictions (i.e. avoiding an arms race) is in my opinion not valid for the amount of carbon fibre or other...

Re: DIY Home Made wooden Hydrofoil fins

Looks nice! Did you cover the wood with some fiberglass, or are you only relying on the wood for strength?

I suppose you did not get too much vibrations, since the wood does not tend to vibrate too much? How was your top speed and "glide"/drag compared to the carafino?

Re: foilboarding vs raceboarding??

I can't see the race boards surviving too long. Hydrofoils are so much more fun that they perform much better as a free-ride category for non competitive riders. And now that they are proving to be faster already (with improvements surely to come with development), I cannot see why anyone would want...

Re: Varial X vs Edge

I recently got the 2013 varial X and I am very happy with it. It is the mot C kite I have had for years and I starting to C why people always want that C-kite feel. If you are comparing it to the edge, are you not thinking of the Varial XR, which is the race kite? I saw a 2012 varial on the beach th...
