Re: Better upwind performance

If one is using an SUP foil and a wave kite what change would yield significantly better upwind angles: different foil or different kite? If the answer is different foil (as I expect it is), are race foils significantly better than free ride foils as far as upwind angles? Thanks Hi. The others have...

Re: Kite Tech Tips: Brummel Splice

In the end. The video is about how I do it, and have done it since 2008. I have never had a line break that I have made myself. The line that I broke last week had no splice. -- Gunnar I realize you are not going to change your mind. You've been doing it this way for 10 years. Just keep it in mind ...

Re: Kite Tech Tips: Brummel Splice

How did you test it Gunnar? Because I have yet to find a line that exceeds it's listed strength by 150% Stretched the line using a pulley system and ratchet straps. Probably the same as most others use. Actually it should always be around 150% or more if the line is new. The manufacturers always at...

Re: Kite Tech Tips: Brummel Splice

It's not tapered. The brummel shown in the video somewhere around 50% a properly tapered splice and close to strength of a figure 8 knot. That is just not true. -- Gunnar I've done destructive testing with my own splices and it's what I've found. I can even tell you where the splice will snap. it d...

Re: Kite Tech Tips: Brummel Splice

My taper actually looks better than the on in the Marlow picture.

You are a troll in this respect. Your wording is key here. Check your post. If you do not find your choices or words insulting. There is nothing much more to discuss with you here.

Re: Kite Tech Tips: Brummel Splice

I'm sure Gunnar did the video with the best intentions but the more I read this thread, the more my initial concerns are confirmed to the point that I now believe it should be removed as dangerous. PLEASE! a) He does not bury enough rope (at least 50x diameters is suggested) - And he does not touch...

Re: Kite Tech Tips: Brummel Splice

I'm not a cordell. But I did regurgitate the splicing instruction from Samson rope who makes Amsteel in post above. Respect to you Gunnar for putting the video out there for criticism, but I'm going with the instructions from the guys who make the rope. I'm also going to try to learn from the guys ...

Re: Kite Tech Tips: Brummel Splice

Prefer this way: http://www.animatedknots.com/brummelmcdonald/index.php Maybe film it with the camera over your shoulder, so we can see it as we would do it...? That is exactly what I am doing, I am just using a tool to make it easier. There is no way to do it without a tool on thinner lines. -- Gu...
