Re: Help me understand fish surfboard sizing

The best tip I got for surfboard was to ride the same size as you would prone surf. If you look at fish recommendations based on weight, they would steer you to ~ 5'8" 6' https://centerforsurfresearch.org/surfboard-size-chart/ https://sizechart.com/sports/surfboard/fish-board/index.html For the wind...

Re: What makes one foil kite have more lift then another besides the size and aspect ratio

Foil profile is first to come to mind. Play with the program XFLR5 to give you an idea. Angle of attack comes to mind next. Some foil kites the aoa is dynamic with respect to sheeting. I would think a good crusing buggy kite would have a low angle of attack for less vertical lift to prevent you from...

Re: the smallest kite for foiling?

My smallest kite for foiling is a 5M strutless. I wouldn't worry about number of struts unless you are looking at big kite (over 10M). For foiling I get away with 10M 5 strut as my big kite for when it is breezy. I carry a 7M 5 strut for when it gets windy. If you are deciding between a 9M and 11M, ...

Re: Would you give any advice for kiteboarding with C-style kites?

I love C-kites. No experience with Naish Torches, it may be a 5 line kite. Some years the seams would fail on the leading edge, don't over inflate or leave out on the beach on a hot day. The person talking about keeping the kite moving is referriing to early c-kite models (pre-2006) which had a tend...

Re: Is this a safe way to shorten my pigtail

For pigtails that attach to a kite, you can just cut to length. I don't bother with splicing. Just a loop on one side and an overhand knot on the other. You can leave extra length on the ends of the knot for re-tuning. If the kite needs a knot, larkshead it on the knot side (loop to loop on line sid...

Re: Harness hook broke during kiteloop

Spreader bars made with 1/4" rods are designed for light loads imo. Reminds me of 1/4" climbing bolts used in the 1960s-1980s. Nobody would want to rely on that gauge of bolt now, and would favor a 3/8" to 1/2" bolt instead. For jumping the diameter of a tube used for a spreader bar should be 3/8" -...

Re: Trying to get a very old flysurfer in shape

When I tune foil kites, I measure each primary A bridle, each primary B bridle, each primary C bridle, and each primary Z bridle. You want to measure them under load. Record your measurments and compare them to the published lengths. Typically the B bridles shrink relative to the A bridles. You may ...

Re: Shorten Line Length for Onshore Wave Conditions

I found that shortening the line length smooths out gusts at my local spot. I forget the exact length, but I routinely use 17M -18M for my 2.5M-9M kites. I've had kites that flew like dogs until I put them on short lines. If you no longer feel comfortable looping the kite, than your line lengths are...

Re: Strut bladder tip blow out repair

I have repaired bladders like this with tear aid. I usually cool tear -ad (i.e ice pack) and patch most of the inside first, trying to get everything lined up and flat Then patch the outside making sure to avoid any wrinkles. Working with cold tear-aid allows you to reapply in case there is a mistake.
