Kite sizes for LA summer

Postby kalinovsky » Mon May 28, 2018 2:23 am

Hey guys,

I'm going to be in Santa Monica for a month at the end of June/beginning of July. I am going to bring my gear and need to decide what 2 kites to bring.

I'm 160lb. I can only take 2 kites. From reading it seems that winds are light, 15-25 mph. For me normally that would be 15m and 12m.

I have 15m Slingshot Turbine and 12m Evo. My other kite is 9m Evo but I don't think it's going to be enough wind. I normally use it when it's over 30mph.

And I'm thinking of taking my regular Shinn Monk board 137x42cm. Should I take my giant lightwind 48cm board instead?

Thanks in advance!

Santa Monica is not reliable for wind. Belmont Shore, Long Beach is. Check out for and Southern California Kiteboarding Association on facebook for local info. 12M and 15M should be safe and worst case, you can rent a kite from Bart at SoCal Kite Surfing on the beach.
