Hi All,
I have been off the water for 5 years now and was previously loving the Naish Ravens. I am 67 kg and have loads of experience riding (6+ years) and am (was) happy doing basic tricks, rotation old school stuff really with the odd kiteloop thrown into the mix. I also like jumping the bigger the better really.

Anyway to the point....

I was looking at a 15m North Dyno and a 11m Rebel and hopefully keeping to a 2 kite quiver as i am married now with kids (hence the 5 year break) and cant afford the 4 kite quiver i was used to (pre marriage).

What i need to know is if the 11m is ok with the 15m Dyno or should/could i go bigger /smaller?
I think they over lap quite well but its a big spend for me and just want to know what you guys and gals think?
The Dyno 15m is fixed in my mind as ideal and really just need size advice for the Rebel to complement it.

I think I would go 15/10, I'm about the same weight as you and can ride a 10m in about 16 knots. If you're into oldschool and jumping a 15m would probably be fun up to 18 or so with a normal sized board. And you could ride a 10m up into the high 20s for sure

I am using a (126 board Nobile 666) if that makes any difference also. And my local spot will be a lake, flat / chop depending on the wind, with the occasional trip to the coast for some variation.

I noticed the wind range was not that different between the 10 and 11m (1kn each end)
If i could go for a 10 that would be great (cheaper also). I can't believe how kites range seems to have increased during my time out. Is this really the case or just that the Dyno makes it possible for me to go from 15 to 10m?

Does anyone else have any advice or even comparisons between the 10 and 11m Rebel?

+1 with Dyyylan.....15/10 combo if only 2 kites quiver for now

Correct about 1 knot at each end of wind range
Top range....29 knots versus 30 knots...33.4 vs 34.5 mph

My combo that i am on 75% of the time is 2012 XR2LW 19 and 2011 Rebel 12 (75kg)
My wife (50kg) same exact kites and rides with combo 17 / 10 (75% of time)

We both have no wind range gaps between those 2 kites... (she is a great kitesurfer..10 years)

When i am on the 10 she is on the 8 (15% of time)
When i am on the 8 she is on the 6 (10% of the time)
8M for me and 6M for her in winds up to 34 knots....39 mph

If we had a 5M she would be out there with me when i am on the 6M in winds up to 38 kn / 43.5 mph

Sorry but i never rode an 11M Rebel so i have no advice about comparing

We do 90% ocean on strap directional surfboards and 10% TT in river (offshore wind at beach)

It all depends on what you want from the kite, I now have a quiver of kites that is 12/10/8, so that I have a very nice range for unhooking on each kite. If you're not unhooked and just want big air, you'll probably want to be overpowered. Since you have a tiny tiny board for your weight (I ride a 133x41) 15/10 works even better because you'll really be able to push that high end of the 15 into the low 20-knot range. The low end of the 10 should be (I've only flown a rebel 1 time) around 16kn or so, so by the time you get tired of the big jumps and hangtime on the 15 you'll be well powered and ready to go on the 10.

Again, that's what I assume you want out of the kite. If you want to do freestyle/wakestyle etc then 15/10 is a huge gap and you'd want something closer together (and different kites altogether lol).

Have you flown either a Dyno or Rebel Mark.??

dyyylan - I think you might be right and i should go for a 12m maybe, now i am really confused !! In a past life my quiver was normally 5 kites 6, 8, 12, 16, 20 but i am really trying to minimise my quiver due to cost, storage and cost, and cost I dont usually ride unhooked as i try to protect my ankle (had surgery on my ankle, dont ask, but is was kite related), plus its never really been my thing. As i think i wrote previously i am old school (45 Years old now) i like rotations big air, board offs, dead man and all that unfashionable stuff., also some smallish waves are fun also but i am by no means a wave rider.

RDM - I have not flown any kite for almost 5 years, prior to that i was running a Kite school in Egypt and rode mostly Raven as i liked them very much. Before that i was riding North Rhinos.
I am now in Austria (Vienna) I dont have any kite buddies here (yet) but i do have a contact that can get a good deal on North kites here. I have never paid retail in my life so this is really important for me. I was kite buggying for almost 10 years before getting on the water and always had trade options as a sponsored racer. These are all in the UK and now historical (probably) but time is also important as i go on holiday in 3 days and wanted to buy some kites to take with me


s29feb - My main venue will be on Neusiedler See (lake) in Austria with vacations to the sea 1-2 wks each year. The winds i expect are shown here http://windalert.com/wind/spot/52697 I would normally head off to go kiting for anything between 13 and 30 kts and ride whatever it is when i get there + or -

I am currently thinking that the 15m is my big kite
I will also need something i can ride in 25+ kts and i dont want to be hanging on for my life either so currently i am still thinking 10 or 11m, if i go for the 11m then maybe next year i could get a smaller 8m kite for the windier days. But then i am back to 3 kites ???

I am quite happy with a two-kite quiver that covers most of the wind range I have in my area: 10m ozone catalyst and 17m ozone zephyr.

Thats a big 7m gap in sizes. What are your normal conditions, ability and style, and do you have 2 boards to compensate??
