you guys are just the kind of public your governments always rely on. obedient and brain washed!

there are no olympic ideals in modern games!!! same thing happened to the christmas and easters!
the COMMERCIALIZATION and POLITICIZATION!

so, right now it is essential to bring the medal to the great power (preferably the gold). we all know that the great champions use drugs sponsored by their own governments! and how we can enhance the medal income?

why we don't introduce swimming for 100m, 150m. 200m, 250m and so on. so the favorite gets more possibilities to win.

the whole olympic system is corrupted. it doesn't need all of those sailing classes at all! i mean how many people do those thing?

first of all i'd put to jail all of olympic committee current members.
olympics has to come to the basics: running, throwing, lifting, wrestling! that is all!

if you want to put swimming in it one man have to do all the swimming for one win!
same with running, jumping and throwing.

and it doesn't have to be country based. every athlete has to find his/her own means to participate.

watched Mo Farah win the 10000m today. incredible performance.

has been running 120 miles a week since bejiing in training for london 2012.

hard to fathom the amount of dedication and work the top athletes put into their craft.

eree-you'll like this from the london mayor:

eree,

This is a thread about the athletes, the events and the countries represented, not the politics of the olympics, etc. Start another thread if that's all you have to add to this thread.

interesting comment from andy murray, after he won gold at the tennis.

he was saying that as part of his training he runs 400m sprint reps and when he's fresh he does 400m in 0.57 seconds.

mo farah in winning gold in the 10000m covered his last 400m in 0.53 seconds.

eree: no wind? if you don't like it, let others have their fun!

Great 100m finals last night...Bolt rocks and showed the world. He looks already so athletic. And adds his show...love it!

Women awesome as well!

Sooo much hard work over the years to get there. Same will be for our kiters going there in 4 years.

The atmosphere being an athlete must be amazing. Which sport is not commercial? So be it...at least they are having their time of their lives and anyone else is just jealous!!!

I don't like how the Olympics are overgrown with so many 3rd rate sports. Some times less is better! I would rather it be more focused on the Track & Field, Gymnastics, Swimming/Diving, Wrestling, ect ect... Instead of seeing things like Handball & Ping Pong in it. I'm sure they could cut the Olympics in 1/2. Surely that will never happen because then there would be less money in it.

So what is the problem with sports that you don't favour? You can just turn off.

Yeah lets take back Xmas to celebrate the turning of the sun. Make it the true pagan holiday it once was. ;)

Agree. There are 34 swimming events. Quite a bit

Politics are important as corruption has been a fact of life with the olympics - both this one and past ones. People/riders need to stick up for their ideals or they will be walked all over, or you have situations where if you do not tow your countries rep association line you may not be chosen to ep in olympics due to a board meeting also (even tho u are the best) - messed up! To be an olympian today you mostly cannot afford to have a job and need to be professional athlete, full time dedication for like 10 years, a big commitment when you are relying on the sport most likely in the olympics not to be completed.
