Vestas just came in at 59.23 knot average (not confirmed yet), so the kiters have their work cut out!

The Sailrocket team mentioned winds of 28 knots at Walvis Bay on the day they set the record. http://www.sail-world.com/Australia/Ves ... it!/103850At the trench the highest by the windsurfers was as soon as the trench opened for business when one of them reached 48.45 knots in a wind that was dying. That would suggest the wind was around 35 to 38 knots at the trench at that time. So the speeds being set are not in extreme winds. There may be higher winds to come, according to the Luderitz forecast. http://www.luderitz-speed.com/luderitz/ ... &Itemid=85

Albeau has now moved the record up to 51.69 knots (to be confirmed). Bringdal has done 51.34, so its a close battle between the two with Bringdal being the first to get into the 50's and Albeau usually slightly ahead. http://en-gb.facebook.com/luderitzspeedchallenge

Amazing ! Even more fantastic than top speed, is the record for the best average sailing speed to average wind speed ratio, where I believe the Vestas are way ahead of everyone else The "efficiency" so to speak Peter

Quote: Even more fantastic than top speed, is the record for the best average sailing speed to average wind speed ratio, where I believe the Vestas are way ahead of everyone else Yeah. It would seem there is still huge unrealized potential in this design - just a matter of balancing the aerodynamics so the thing stays on the water. The flamingos seemed completely unimpressed however.
