shark encounters

I have literally seen more sharks in the past month than I have in all the Jaques Cousteau sharkumentaries..
The sharks do not appear to be aware of me until I'm passin over em.
Dolphins are common in the waters around here. The dolphins appear to be aware of our presence, often times runnin parallel to ya when yer cruisin. 2 dolphins were actually reported to have swam around a down
kiteboarder in the water, less that 10 meters away until he reached the shore, shortly thereafter a shark swam by the shorebreak.
I am curious to hear of other encounters with sharks and sea critters.
Has there been a verified report of a shark attacking a kitesurfer ??

Every animal in the water is aware of you before you see them. There are certian distances for each to give a certian response under certian conditions. I would not try to get close to dolphins in the wild. Its their environment. What do you think would happen if you got too close to a baby? What if they decided you were something to chase and play with? I have a feeling that they would play for keeps and even if they didnt mean to do damage they might. I have been close to turtles, rays, dolphins and probably sharks but, I think its a good idea not to go close if you can avoid it.

I've been VERY close to a sea urchin.

Two kiters have been bitten in my area (south Florida) in the last 2 years.
One was minor and the other required 131 stitches to repair his foot.
He was disabled for more than a year. He no longer kites.

Yesterday i almost landed a jump on two sea turttles having sex. From upthere at first i thought it was a big piece of wood but when landing beside i realised they were two sea tuttrles(caretta-caretta, endangered kind of mediteranian sea turtle) in xxx action, luckily i did nt land on them.
