Alomst exclusively worn for fashion - but here are reasons (other than fashion)
1. In areas with lots of jellyfish - pants and long sleeve shirt are required
2. Protection from Sun or mild protection for for you skin in case of being dragged across a beach or something.
3. Cover-up for skinny arse chicken legs

if you think "dick tricks" are gay, go and try a wetsuit....
fashion for sure, but also wetsuit protection and warmer.
and in the sun when no pants is needed, sun protection.

Remember, it's harder to swim in kitepants, so if you go out any distance, bear that in mind.
I don't drop the kite that often but I did have a LONG swim in recently after an LE down crash when I was maxed.
