Yes, I used fresh. I couldn't find any frozen or even canned (although canning might have destroyed the nutrients. I read it in "Alternatives", one of the 3 monthly alternative medicine newsletters I subscribe to (along with "Second Opinion", & "Health & Healing"). I used it several times when my injury was recent.

dt, I cant comment on the bar shape but It makes sense to me that having your forearm less pronated (ie palm up or to the side rather than palm down) may be better. Personally I hate kiting palm up. Maybe the north bar helps this but I wouldnt get too hung up on that detail. Use what feels best for you.
