Hello Fabjet,

Thanks for looking into getting an impact vest. Hopefully lots more riders will do the same. For any of us that have been through a good body slam, have felt the pain, shortness of breath and have wondered if something has been broken, you don't have to go through that, necessarily, with an impact vest. I have very little time kiteboarding with waist harnesses so I can't advise you about that. I have used two types of impact vests, a cumerband variety similar to Bump and Jumps and a zip up, strap on Rib Curl. Both worked well and made a difference in coming through some nasty slams both on the water and on land. I highly recommend impact vest to all riders.

I was hoping you could provide more details about your accident and those of the people in PR, i.e. kite size, winds and direction and detailed circumstances of the accidents. I would like to make a combined account for the KSI on kiteboarding and impact incidents and protection.

Thanks,
Rick Iossi

Hi all,

I'm using a waist harness with the O'neill Boost wakevest. Very light, top quality and doesn't come too low. It also prevents the waist harness from lifting up in certain conditions. Check out the following link. It is the 125 $ worth it!

I just got my Gun Sails vest and I am quite pleased with the way it fits and the protection.
THe only place that looks underpadded is the side of the rib cage, where there is only some thin stretch material. I wonder what happens if you crash sideways.

Check http://www.neilpryde.com/product/waterwear.html Then click waterwear and floatation vests.
This is the one with the best protection and the one that is the less bulkie.

Hi Guys,

Thks for the answers.
The Neil Pryde pro 5000, looks real good and interesting removable pads, depending on what you'll do that day. But no price tag?
Just by looking at pics I still don't see how I could wear a waist harness with all those vest...
The waist harness hook is usually around my belly button and rise slightly when riding.
All these vest are covering that area and sometimes down to the hips.
So how do you put the harness? can't be on top of the vest, so has to be blo, but then if the vest is closed the hook will be under the vest.. no solution there..
The only vest that I see might work will be the Bump & Jump because it is shorter and thinner at the harness place and therefore the poss to put the waist harness on top of the vest...
But not sure there how it will actually feel riding...
I don't want to order something that will be not work...
Any rider with B&J and waist harness?
Now for the post I have some Q:

Roel: I saw the Oneil Boost vest and you said you are using it with your waist harness can you provide more details on how?

Jever: the low rib protection on the Gun is what I am trying to protect..
The waist harness was on my ribs at the time of the slam and did not protect me at all, so I would need a good rib protection...

Well I might just have to go back to the seat harness if I want to use a good impact vest..

Any other inputs appreciated...
Thks..
Fabjet.

Hello Fabjet,

My accident is only one of many in the KSI resource. Of course given that I was involved in it, it hit home a bit more, literally! It is located at:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/kitesurf/files/
under:

Kitesurfing Safety Information
A collection of kiteboarding accidents and incidents from around the world.

and is incident:

4. Incident 9 00 1

Check out the KSI there is a lot to learn about safe kiteboarding there.

I'm wearing NEILPRIDE IMPACT 5000 with a Bump&Jump seat harness.
The combination is perfect and you really feel safer in jumping and for anything wrong can happen. No limits in mobility.
Any seat harness is suitable to it, you can feel the difference and find not confortable with waist harness .
cheers
Niks
