Expense of kit its all realtive ? So whats your hourly rate?

Postby Mr Float » Sun Jul 06, 2003 8:16 am

My kit is 13 and 10 g arc.Range 8 -40 kts and under 12 kts i stack .Yes i know not everones cup of tea.Boards vary .
Retail price in AUD
kite kit and harness $3000
board $800
Hours on the waterper year approx 400
Horly rate for the most fun i've had in any sport $10 per hour right at my doorstep

Now not all of the punters are as fortunate as me but working out the hours for the ave Joe around here I'd say 150 hrs per year $25 per hour and theyre not wearing their kites out as much

Ave Joe could save over $1000 on used gear(and hey there are plenty of kites around like the old X2 that are pretty hot for pretty hot prices )getting the hourly rate down to $18

Skiing or snowboarding
Board bindings boots $1300
clothes gloves goggles $800
Day ticket $80
Accom and meals $100 a d ay

$3900 for 10 days or 60 hrs thats $65 per hour
Now I'm sure to be fair to snowsports if you live down there you can get your hours up and expenses down and you don't have to upgrade gear every year (you don't have to in kiteboarding either) the hourly rate comes down so if we spread the gear expense over 4 years you can bring the hourly rate down a bit

Wakeboarding depends on boat and rate of suckin down peterol but I'm not sure (maybe someone would like to do an analysis)

Anyway it'd be great to see what sort of dollar value besides the adrenaline value of kiteboarding is in different experiences

Lach

Mr Float,

Were do you ski?
Dayticket 80$....

The biggest ski area in the world (les 3 vallee, 600km or 400 ml sloaps) is only asking 150-200 $ for 6 days.

In Switzerland, Adelboden-Lenk jou pay 35$ a day....

But you are right, we all pay a lot for the fun. You better stop counting.
How much do you pay for your car again? fuell, insurance.....

Enjoy

Privelege? Ohh its a joke right?
My son Goshen had a good weekend somewhere in the Victorian ski fields, he did not need a lift pass, he used his Blades and a snowboard to get back up. Apparently this was one of the best sessions he has had down there.

My other son just returned from Smiggins, and had zero wind, but reasonable conditions, mainly off the beaten track though, which off piste or something isn't it?

When is the trip you are planning down there with Mike W and co?
