i don't know if i get it right...
do u mean sleeved? and do you mean the thicker parts on both ends?
that's easy to explain: you can't knot a kiteline (actually, you CAN)- but these hi-tech lines are very sensitive. a knot will decrease the strenghth of the line by about 30%.

sleeves are the end "bits" on your lines - these are threaded on and allow you to loop the lines to attach the kite - you can buy a sleeving kit from most kite shops - useful if you want to shorten your lines - failrly easy to do
