Hi everybody.... I've been flying flexi blades for 2 years and want to try a new brand of kite... problem is I've only been out on foils so im clueless as what to get? Im 75kg on 170TT and want a kite with large wind range, low end starting at 8/10knots+
I like the look of RDD iv19 and the dealer is currently pushing me towards AIRUSH LIFT12.2 and TAKOON10.5, but im worried these won't get me cruising in 10 knots
any help appreciated...thanks

Both kites are no lightwind kites at least in this size.Choose around 15sqm size for your kite.

AT your weight with a 170 you will be cruising with the takoon 10.5 around in winds with lulls to 10 knot minimum and getting some small jumps. At 85-90 kg I need about 11-12 knots minimum for this kite stay upwind and get small jumps with a slightly smaller board. But it's ideal range is 13-19 knots +/- a few depending on weigth/board size etc. I can hold the 10.5 to max gusts in the low 20's. I find the 10.5 to be about as powerful in the lowend as last years wipika AB 11.8 for those who know that kite, and better top end. If you are really after performace around 8-12knots the takoon 14.5 works really well in this light air..long floaty (not super high) jumps and nice smooth handling. It does get over-powered sooner, but has a suprizing top end for such a powerful kite. The other day I had it out in gusts of 16-18 and was full powered but not over powered and having a blast

I weight 75kg and ride a 170TT as well.

I surf the Mach1 18m starting at 6-7 mph, get upwind in the 8-9, and start flying at 10 mph or above. I have experienced gusts as high as 20 (!) so far, but didn't like the experience so much.

I love this kite! (I have a 12 & 18).

Hi Peter, I guess you mean the 12.5

And indeed it produces a _lot_ of power. Much more than last years AB11.8. I think I have to switch to my 8.5 a little sooner than last year to a AB8.4, but the 8.5 starts way sooner than the AB8.4.

So the quiver gives me much more range.

Buy the ARX 17,5 m2. This kite really rulez in light wind conditions. Some people say it is very slow, but if you get used to it you can make huge air. It looks like the kite just build power on its own.

I weigh 90 Kg and i own the Airush Lift 12.2(15.5 sqm) and since one week also the 16 19.4 sqm).

In light wind i am using a Airush classic switch 150, its like a mutant board. For more wind i use Slingshot Skate series Jarvis 157 or Misty 137.

I, 90Kg and 150cm board, can go with the Lift 16 in 11 knots, i need 12+ knots to go upwind. Maybe i can go in less than 11 knots but then i have to sinus a lot and i don't like sinusing. I think there is no tube kite where you can go upwind in less than 10 knots.

Last monday here in Holland there was really nice weather and up to 12 knots. I was really supprised that i good kite that well in such light wind 11, 12 knots, even made a good landed backloop.

I'am really supprised by the kite first i wanted the Naish X2 20 but due to the long delivery time i decided to get the Lift 16 (now i have all the Lifts)

Yesterday i was trying to kite in 8 knots and that was really not possible for me. Good point was that i was able to restart the kite in such light wind from the water.

i do not know what the high end of the kite. I have flown it in 16 knots.

So i think good light wind kites are the new 2002 like F-One 18.1, X2 20, RRD Supertype and for me the Lift 16. I would recommend a 18 to 20 sqm kite and if you can handle it a High AR kite.

I´m riding a Cabrinha BT 02 15.5 (21m)and its a amazing kite very powerfull very stable
its it turns like the 9.4 01 .construction quality is the best .i´m 86 kg and i´m going up wind with 7 knots and doing some jumps,with a naish flash mutant 4.8.I tried this kite till 15 knots and at this time you realy jump very high and for a long time.The depower work very well and reacts perfectly in the gusts.for me its a perfect ligth wind kite.very powerfull turns fast for its size boat valve on the LE easy to inflate and desinflate,nice bag ,lines colored,.well i love my kite i´m quite happy now i can realy have fun in ligth winds.

Takoon Skoop. Only option really. its super light and super fast so goes in very little wind. i am 90kg and go happily in 10 knots on a 169 Lw with the 10.5. The wind range is huge, up to 25 knots on a wake.Comparale to 11.8 AB but much wider range.

The 12.5 is also a great kite, its so fast you can loop it. Was upwind in 5-10 on a LW181 last week. Also takes 18-20 knots on a small board.

Very high, very long, very floaty and very well behaved, accurate kites.

too slow, too much steering force, water relaunch nearly impossible.

i use the airush 12.2 - it starts @ about 11knots with me (74kg, wakeboard) and i can hold it till 20-23knots ...
