well .. you can say that the low end of the 2001 airblast (8.4) IS disappointing.

any 2002 (high performance) kite with 11-12m flat i know has a better low end

Much, much better.

Same situation as you were in, last weekend my power-adjuster broke, so I had to switch from my 12.5 Skoop to 8.5 in winds where I wouldn't dream of getting the 8.4.

Now it was get up to speed, point upwind, go like hell

It really differs a lot. But the 8.4 could be improved quite a bit, word is that the 2002 has also much better low-end.

it has ...

the 'old' 8.4 made sense if used with the incredibly long holdable 11.8.
but not as a regular 11.5 flat kite...

the new one's working good, regarding this.

anyone tried the new 6.3?
had a few hours with it last weekend in 6-8bft
gusty wind - and the kite flapped like mad - i was afraid it'll blow itself to pieces ...
