(Cabarete, Dominican Republic-June 27,2002) Early afternoon winds in the 18-24 knot range kicked off the start of the PKRA-Cabarete World Tour Freestyle double eliminations. Riders in the Men's bottom ladder had a difficult time penetrating the defensive line of those holding their placing from the single elimination results ladder completed yesterday. Yet, in the Women's ladder only Fiona Wedenig SUI, managed to fight her way into the semis after a disappointing early out in the Singles.

In the first Men's, man on man, round- Yuste ESP, Cattelan FRA, Cunha BRA, Phillip ANT, Reid NZL, Overwater NED, Kellner SA and Rodriquez VEN rushed the line to round two where only Cunha and Cattelan survived, as James USA, Herraiz ESP, Seales UK, Ramseier SUI, Carneiro BRA and Solbach USA denied the other's passage into the quarters. But, the two got stopped cold as the action ramped up a notch and they sidelined with Seales and Carneiro in the first round of the quarter-finals. In the second round of the quarters Shinn UK swept past Herraiz ESP, James USA fired by compatriot Tobias USA- who was unable to hold his ground, Koch USA was beached by Ramseier SUI and Gonzales DR blew by Solbach USA after a frustrating loss yesterday. One heat into the start of the semi-finals found James finally doused by Shinn, and Gonzales, on a solid landing streak, toppled Ramseier. A shift in the quality of the wind, which both decreased and grew gusty, left Heat 31 on hold for tomorrow, whereby Shinn faces off with Sudrat FRA and Gonzales meets Lago ESP. All for hope for a chance to unseat Vari ARG, now 2nd, and Tyburski USA,, waiting in 1st Place.

In the Women's first round the competitively experienced passed through, including Pegon FRA, Wharry UK, Wedenig SUI and Pinto USA. In the second round, both Pinto and Wedenig advanced after very tight heats against Prochaska USA and Eastman USA, respectively. Yet, Wharry and Pegon got stopped by Bunton Uk and Kollbichtler AUT, respectively as well. In the semis, Kollbichtler and Wedenig forged ahead, leaving Pinto and Bunton in equal 7th Place. Tomorrow will continue with Heat 15 for the women with Wedenig meeting D'Ortoli FRA and Kollbichtler riding against Kirchner GER. All are hoping for a Top 4 placing with Plentovich USA, in 2nd, and Mosey NZL in First.

The Freestyle double elimination ladder is scheduled to continue tomorrow at noon.
