Hi All! I am a beg/intermed. rider (195lbs) in winds averaging 8-16 mph, on Litewave 181, Olry, and HC 5'0. Looking to get 12M and 18M kites medium AR kites to progress with. Have ridden and liked Aeros and Hydros. Was told whatever two kites I get to keep same brand so easy to know how they fly... I figure my choices are Hydros, 13 and 9; Aero 20 and 14; Magics(if they were more available and more people flew them) Toro 16, 12 (No 18M North? Boo!) OR maybe even something like Slingshot 12, 18 or Airush Lift 12, 18.... thoughts on best ones? Not boosting air at all yet, just wanna nice easy to fly quiver for really getting powered up and riding upwind and learning more board technique!

Thanks!

S

this is not easy to answer....
big kites are slow and not really fun.
the one that really works good in light winds is the Flysurfer Mastair 16.
but only if you like foils.
I don't know about the new X2 20.0 which might be a good big kite, but have to test it before. The Aero 20 might be too slow as well.
The F-One Mach 1 18.1 is a nice kite as well.
Personally for me the limit will be 18 sqm.
I will test the X2 in 16 and maybe that size is big enough where you still can have lots of fun with.
I don't think an intermediate kite bigger than 16 sqm will do. Maybe that's why North has produced the Toro up to 16 sqm max.

So try to test as many as you can an go from there which one you like the most.

Toby

btw - last year most riders used 8-12-16 sqm surface area as a setup.
(maybe the bigger kites were too slow, so this year this might change)
