As many of us, I have been thinking about shapes a bit.
Although I am not sure that the release step on a lot of small twintips work, I find the wavetray rather interesting.
Does it make more sense to put them on small/ highwind boards (e.g. 140x36 plus tips) or more on the lightwind boards, assuming that both are being used in waves?

It makes sense to use them on anything ridden in rough water. The tip makes the board go faster in this water. The board rides up a wave face much faster than a straight tip. A straight tip board feels like it's digging the tail and slowing down when it shoots up a wave face.

The release edge does works. You can see it in the water pattern coming off the tail.

What does the water pattern look like on a flip-up?
On my wake, which is built very cleanly, the water release is super smooth
