Hello there.

I just had the idea that I'd love to try
going skating/skiing/snowboarding with a
kite.

I just wondered if any of you have any experience in this, and might have pointers of what to think of.

Should I use a smaller kite than usual ?
Any problems with kites and sub-zero conditions, etc ?

pay attention to your tubekite if there's sub zero conditions and the snow's very hard.
the ice-crystals can hurt the tube when dropped ...

when doing your first steps, use a small kite!
you can't sink like in water and don't need a certain speet to get going - so start small -
i broke my wrist while trying ...

I will be careful.
Broken bones is not on my favourite list of things.

we have snow kite in finland in condition up to - 20C, no bigger problems, don't crush the tube kite on ice with full speed.
You can damage kite also on sand by doing this.
With 15 m2 tube kite you need app. 1- 2 m/s wind => it is possible to kite every day! I have tested 14 m2 Takoon on wind less than 2 m/s it gives amazing power/ speed.

get a good foil. no pumping, saves you time and energy, and reliable relaunching from downwind. on ice you will have trouble relaunching lei kites. foils have no materials that can fail in low temperatures.

There is no bigger problems in relauncing the tube kite on ice/ snow. When kiting on ice /snow it is much easier to to keep the kite on air than on water. It is mainly question if you want to use same kite also on water.
