considering an excursion to Anakena Beach on the mysterious Easter Island for a killer kitesurfing photo and video shoot with the MOAI statues in the background.

Curious if any other advanced riders would be interested in going or meeting there. Their is actually an airline that services this remote island. Travel fair for me from the US is right around $1100.00, with the entire trip budget for myself and equipment, room and board, being right around $2000.00.

So am I going alone (with one photographer) or are you coming with me?

GREAT! The airline servicing the most remote island in the world actually flies out of Chile if my memory serves.

I have not yet booked anything solid. I thought I would first check to see if anyone else had any interest in joining me and when would be best for most. From what I've gathered so far (from just you) sometime between September and March would work good for those showing interest thus far. Let us next reasearch the area and check when the weather there is doing what...

ok, for the moment i´ve only detailed informations about surf spots at the coast of chile. in the 5th region in the summer time 20-30 knots minimum. sunny weather conditions in this part from the end of october, i think.
if you´re that flexible we should go in the pre-season (´til december).in the main season the guys become a bit crazy with their prices…you know.

hi, i live down here in chile, it,s great that you come here to kite. here are some advices, if you can come on november december is a lot better, stronger winds, less crowded and MUCH cheaper airline tickets to "isla de pascua" or easter island, lan chile is the only one (but im not shure) that goes to the islan and the ticket is very expensive... and in the sumer is dificult to find seats so book it early... in the island the weather is nice and the water a little warmer, here in mainland the water is freezing, bring a 3-4mm wetsuit (i use a sola titanium 3-4-5) the winds are strong in the best kite spots around 20-30kts, some days even more, BUT in summer (jan and feb) you can get a full week with no wind at all, i´ve been there and it,s not nice. the best spots are Pichidangui 250km north from Santiago (the capital) and Santo Domingo some 150km from santiago to the west, both are really big sandy beaches, the first no waves the second some waves, both are windsurf spots. there are more places probably but since kiteboarding is just starting here we havent test them yet. good look and let me know if you are coming to mainland and we can meet here and do some kiting.

Hey IKR,
It's awesome that you reside in Chile! Does this mean that we can count on you to make the trip with us from there out to Easter Island?
Also, does it mean that you can find out the best way for us to get to Easter Island from there? I know we can go by boat, but that's too far and too slow. It is to my understanding that an airline in Chile does service Easter Island..and the name of the airline if I remember correctley is NOT Ian Chile. I will try to find the exact name of the airline, but in the meantime, can you see what you can dig up since you are halfway there? I'm not trying to say you are wrong about which airline...you being there, you should know, but I am saying that the airline you mention is NOT the one I read that goes there.

As far as cost and expense goes...this is to be expected. I planned on spending $2000.00, give or take a thousand on myself getting there, but whatever it takes....the expense for me goes way beyond that though as i also have 2 camera men to get over there as well. I plan to take along a professional photographer and video camera operator. It won't be a wasted trip. This is why I originally asked if any 'advanced' kiters wished to join me. We do plan to shoot a professional video while there and then have it produced professionally as well for purposes of selling it. This video is aimed at featuring advanced riders that most people have never heard of in a killer backdrop doing killer moves. I don't particularly care for the fact that most videos for sale today are of the same ole pro riders doing their same ole bag of tricks. Other have tricks to offer too! This doesn't mean that you have to be advanced to go and or ride..it just helps to make a better video if everyone in it is going off. The still shots, or photos are a differ story. You can't really tell how good or bad someone is from a still shot. SO bring your bad ass self on down there with us eh? When and if the video goes big, wouldn't you like to know that you are either in it or at least a part of making it?

And how can one resist an opportunity to go and get themselves acquainted with the "Moai"? Those bad boys are going to be worked into the video from several different angles for effect. It's gonna RULE!
