Has anyone experienced unusual pain and excessive swelling in an arm that
may be related to kiteboarding? I am not talking about rotator cup injuries
but something a bit different. I suspect that anyone that has experienced
this problem didn't leave it alone to go away but because of the discomfort,
had it diagnosed. Basically is is caused by a blood clot in a primary vein
near the arm. This problem appears to be brought on by excessive use of the
involved arm or more critically reaching behind your back with this arm
repeatedly. This problem may occur in susceptible individuals or those with
a family or personal history of blood clots. The condition is called
effort-induced thrombosis (blood clot), or Paget-von Schrötter syndrome and
involves blockage of the subclavian vein. I am making inquiries on behalf of
someone who has developed this condition.
Thanks,
