X2 20???

Postby Freshman » Thu Aug 21, 2003 4:50 pm

HI,
could anyone tell me more about this kite?

- low-, highend
- lift
- hangtime
- etc..

I do tricks and high jumps so far.
I'm 72 kg and ride a 137 WT
my biggest kite is a 12.2 (15.4) Airush Lift
which gets me going in 14 knots.
maybe I change it in an AMP 10.3.

thanks for replies.

I am similar size and have a similar board. Low end is about 10knots or less with a bigger board. Lift is very high for such a big kite and hang time great. Tops me out at about 16 knots.
I have had 16.4 Airblast and tried 17 slingshot. I guess that in reality it works like an 18m version of my old 16m Rhino but flying off the fronts more and therefore easier and better upwind. It is the jumping performance that really keeps me to it and I have not seen anything else that I want to change it to - YET.

My favorite kite - ride it about 80% of the time I am out. Use it from 10 to 12 with a 5'5" mutant, and from 13 to 16 or so w/ a 137 wakeboard, and I am about 185 lbs. Can hold it fine in gusts up to 20, but would not rig it if the wind was steady above 16.

I have flown North Rhino 16, 20 & Toro II 18, and Wipika Airblasts 11.8 and 16.4. The X2 gives you the most lift of any of them - it is so quick and accelerates when you send it over your head to jump, and pulls you off the water. The Rhino 20 is similar, but X2 is just a little bit quicker, and also when going upwind, the X2 seems to give you a little bit more. As you edge with your board as far up wind as possible, the kite seems to be racing you at the edge of the window.

I actually got rid of the Wipika 11.8 (16) after I got the X2 20, and got an X2 14 as my medium kite. The kite really has great range.

Same set up here 20 and 14. Easy to step from the 20 and still be getting big jumps with the 14.
Didn't like the 10 so have a Skoop 8.9 for those Nukin days.

What didn't you like about the 10? I have not tried it, nor do I regularly use a smaller kite than the 14, so I have not upgraded in a couple years. I have not had any days that I have not been able to use the 14 (rarely it is above 25 here - 23 steady is about the top of the 14 for me), so I haven't been forced out to buy one. What do you like more about the Takoon's?

Flies nice, poor low end for its size. I had one for six month and then change it for a Rhino2, much better BIG kite.

Don't know about the 20 but a lot of my mates use 18 + 14 or just the 16 (lighter guys who weigh about 65 kg) from 8 knots up. You'll definately need a lightwind board to get the most out of the low end, great kites, still one of the best on the water imo
