Kauai rentals/lessons

Postby Guest » Tue Sep 09, 2003 2:05 am

I am in the early stages of planning a winter trip to Kauai with family.
Is there anywhere on the island that I can rent gear for a few days?

Never been there, just a beginner and willing/wanting to take more lessons when I get there.
Hopefully by winter I will be passed the basic lessons and moving onto something more advanced, hence the rental gear.

Thanks!!

Hi there,

I went to Kauai last Christmas under circumstances that sound similar to yours... interested in renting, but willing to take a lesson or two, to get better. I brought out my own kite and harness, and successfully rented a board from "Brando" (from the trykauai link referenced in the prior email). Brando was cool in inviting me to follow him around as he searched for good wind for the private lesson he had already scheduled.

Unfortunately, Kauai in the Winter may not be the best place to go kiting. We started at a beautiful bay on the north shore, with little wind; then drove to a windy, but hairy onshore launch on the east shore, and finally settled down "behind the gollf course", on the east-southeast shore -- nice sand, but a bit light.

Good Luck,
