I'm taking a trip to Tijuana, Mex., at the end of April and would love to get in a few days of kiting in San Diego and/or northern Baja.

I've searched the archives and made contact with the San Diego Kitesurfers Association, with info. on SD area kiting, but would be interested in hearing more about the Baja Norte scene.

Any suggestions? Will there be any wind that time of year?

I'm willing to drive a couple hours south of Tijuana to get good wind/conditions.

Any information on sailing spots/hotels, etc., will be most appreciated.

I've just returned from two weeks at Pete's Camp 10 km north of San Felipe which is on the northwest coast of the Sea of Cortez about 120 straight miles south of Mexicali and about a four hour drive from San Diego. We had wind around 12-14 knots side onshore almost every day steady as a train with one day no wind and several days with gusty offshore winds 10-20 knots. Flying 18.5 Titan most of the time on 137 x 43 board; easy laid back kiting with small jumps in shallow tiny surfbreak on huge tidal areas. The beach is about 30 miles long. Very weird place however, in terms of the local population; everybody except the Mexicans were over 65 with most of their feet in the grave riding around in dune buggies and atvs except for short jaunts to their giant motor homes and fifth wheels and beach chairs. In other words, bring your own party and entertainment for the times when you're not on the water.
The other place on the west coast is San Quentin just south of Ensenada but I haven't kited it yet. Monkey air on this forum takes groups down there from LA when the wind is up. Have fun!
