Does anybody know of any lakes in southern california that are nice for kitesurfing? I have taken a few lessons, but I don't really feel confident enough to go out on my own in the ocean as of yet. If there are no lakes, maybe somebody can tell me of a good ocean spot to continue learning? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

J

Ocean is better for kiteboarding. More steady and consistant winds. Most lakes are inland and the winds are very gusty and dangerous for biginners.
A great place to learn to kiteboard is Belmont shores in Long Beach. Very wide beach with over 100 yds of sand in most areas. The beach is also very long (maybe that is why they call the city Long Beach) so you can walk back up wind when you are learning. Check out http://www.scka.org for local rules and information. e-mail me at fhu@performancecomposites.com if you would like more info.

I forgot to mention, Belmont Shores is protected by breakwater so there are no waves.

They don't allow it on any likes that I know of. Most of the lakes are resivoirs used for drinking water. Better on the ocean or bays.
