You can use the CLS also going direct with the kite into the powerzone on take off.
It is much more safe, because you take out for real, ~98% power of the kite. (If you want you can still fly the kite depowered under your control by only holding like 0,5-1 meter of the Center Line with one hand on the bar)

The angel the kite has into the wind with use of CLS fully released makes the kite "balance" without generating any power.

We did have a " real test" with the CLS system, on a Matrix 13.5 in about 14m/sec totaly overpowered and the pilot almost only making hangtime :-? The system worked great, and totaly in perfect control and the the pilot was very happy. He got a good adrenalin kick thou

This looks like a great idea, and it looks so smooth on the Wipika video. I just have a couple questions:

1.Doesn't the 5th line get all wrapped around your lines if you spin?

2.If you do this kind of self launch, isn't the kite directly downiwind and in the middle of the power zone??? :?:

Yes.
And Yes, but the kite dos not need to be downwind, since you can still do it like normal.
Just more ways to do it.

Flyboy II wrote:Single attach point (pump leash)

Other then spreading the point load of a single attachment point to prevent tearing (the loads aren't that high though) or eliminate again a single point restraint which might encourage the leading edge to bend at that point, I don't think the system would behave any differently aerodynamically. The aerodynamics of the shape and the drag of the tips is what rotates the kite upside down, not the number of attach points.

Now I am only familiar with my rig, and I hadn't thought of these elastic bridles or adding the ability to tune the length of the line to adjust the angle of attack. Excuse me, I must retire to my lab to experiment now...

Scott
I read your longer explanation and this one. It seems to
me that one tuning issue is that the kite may fly up
upside down if the 5th line is too short (or flying lines
too long, depending on POV). This makes me think
that putting the 5th-line attachment points some distance
below the leading edge may eliminate that problem.

So, if you put the attachment point on the bottom of
the front tube, rather than at the front, wouldn't the
5th-line itself give the kite a slight downward angle of
attack once it was on the water? I said "bottom" only
as an example. It would take some experimentation
to figure out exactly the right spot. Maybe even
around the back of the front tube would be best.

By the way, thanks very much for your complete description.

ok if you want cls on your kite
normaly you can go to your kite repair they know the distance of the points en can fix it well,if it isnt good connected on the LE it will release the kite and thats a big problem!
cheers
