April's fool by Flysurf.com :: World speed record ;)

Postby Guest » Thu Apr 01, 2004 10:14 am

Hi all,

Just fresh this morning on flysurf.com

A huge (4 pages :thumb: ) news about a Cory Roseler's World Speed Record at more than 49 knots last week, in the narrow speed channel of Les Saintes Maries de la Mer, south of France, just occuring THE day where the windsurfers had left the place, in total secret...
hmmmmfff, a nice article though, well documented, with interviews, weather report explanations, etc... maybe the weekly job of Philou from flysurf.com (nice hoax :thumb: )

If you can read french, or if you plan to learn french, it's an interesting reading, maybe also purposed to pump up the pressure before the Mondial du Vent and its Speed Challenge, coming soon later on this month.

Tshaw !

This story reminds me the beginning era of speed sailing of Haywood in windsurfing.

57 MPH is beyond the speed limit, that is speed on a small board. I would not want to fall at that speed for sure. Probably 60 MPH will be coming in a couple of years.

Even if it's April fools joke one day it's still possible IMO.

It doesn't count as an April Fool joke. It's all too serious. There needs to be something blindingly obviously wrong so that you would have to be a fool to believe it.

Had me fooled at first too, only thing I noticed is that the article said they checked to see if the record would qualify under "WSSRC (World Speed Sailing Racing Council)" rules.

In fact the WSSRC Is the World Sailing Speed Record Council and they had nothing about it on their site, nor did http://www.mastersofspeed.com

This is the same site that last year posted an article about a big indoor kitesurfing event comming up...
