Gorge Games 2004

30-35 knots of gnarly Gorge wind the entire day made for insane conditions in the freestyle event and first ever kiter cross on water. Inflatable railslides, slickers and Airtime Kiter Cross walls were anchored through out the eventsite for pure riding satisfaction. Kiter Cross was the hit of the event, so look for it events to come...

Gorge Games Kiter Cross

Postby montanakitesports » Thu Jul 15, 2004 10:14 pm

The Kiter-Cross kicked ass! It was fun watching the sick head to head action! The starting line in the photo was crazy...4 guys shoulder to shoulder ripping to the first windward mark! When is this going to be on TV?

Kiter-Cross

Please explain more than the web site does

Is this really practical to race through an obsticle course.
Sounds so cool but what are the rules of engagement.

In Sailing it is customary to shadow the downwind boat with your spinnaker and excellerate by them. Is this possible?
I have taken my friends wind and watched him sink wondering where the wind went before notecing me but we wern't in a race

How long is the course and how fast did it go?

any info
Any Video??????
thanks
Joel

Kiter cross format

Postby Airinsails » Fri Jul 16, 2004 4:39 pm

The course took about 4 minutes a lap. 4 riders went head to head. The start line was between two buoys with a 1 minute countdown and a boat to referee a fair start.

The first leg of the course went upwind to spread out the field then they turned around an upwind buoy and went through a zig zagging downwind course with four obstacles that were 30 feet long and 5 feet high that they had to jump over. The first two riders to complete the course successfully moved on to the next heat.

The only rules were helmets are mandatory and crossing lines resulted in disqualification. Lines only tangles once the whole day when Bertrand Fluery tried to pass Alex Peterson on a jump over the finish line. Greta Finish...

The Super Cross Final had two laps and it was Adam Koch and Chris Gilbert all the way. Adam was out front at the start until Gilbert passed him while Adam was jumping super high, but Adam came back in the second lap with a sweet high speed pass and took first by 2 seconds. It was by far the best race of the day.
