Constructive X4 feedback?

Postby Kurt » Tue Aug 24, 2004 9:00 am

Interested too hear from (preferably) unbiased x4 users on how they rate the kite. I did a search on x4 and got nothing - is it cause I'm using Mozilla??

Anyway, sifted thru a few older posts and other sites and the feedback is ok but there seems to a general feeling of very heavy bar pressure?
I have found the Boxer 1 16m to have very heavy bar pressure - if you could compare it to the x4 that would be great? (BTW I also found the Best Nemesis to have heavy bar pressure as well 14M+)

I like med/high aspect kites and would love to hear about the 20,18,14 and 10m X4 sizes in particular. Also any experience with the 5th Shift system and if it drastically changed the kite other than relaunch would be appreciated.
Thanks

Kurt, all Naish kites have heavy bar pressure.

X4 is flies similar to the X3 but has more grunt, which means more sidewards pull but earlier planning. It has very good lift and hang, but like all high aspect kites can feel sluggish if you move your kite around alot. Medium aspect kites get around the window much quicker.

Rode a Nemesis 8m, and found it to have slightly lighter bar pressure to the Boxer and X4.

Let's try to be unbiased ...

I have the 16 , and it is the best 16 I have ever used, I almost switched to the R4 , having X3s previously and I had the chance to compare both,
I prefered the X4 which was more powerfull.
It is fast, forgiving, easy to trim and really powerfull in the sense that it can travel very fast in the window, but the high range is still there.

What can I say else ?

I have the 12m X4 and it is the nicest kite I have ever flown. I came from X2 and X3 and other kites and the X4 has even more pop for jumping. But even more important to me is that it is more forgiving. When I blow a trick I find it still flying just waiting for me. I don't notice much bar pressure but maybe I am just used to it. On the negative side I find the power sometimes scares me. I don't even try kiteloops in high winds, whereas a lower aspect kite might be OK for them. (Maybe I just need more guts.)

I also have a Boxer 9m which is a very user friendly kite. It handles the gusts very well and it is fun in high wind (a lot of kites aren't). I find it excellent for tricks but it doesn't jump quite as high as the X4.

I fly the X4 14.
It is a great kite and I love it.
My style is big air and this kites makes it possible for me.
I found it more stable in the air than my former R4, meaning it doesn't do anything I don't want to.
It has more bar pressure then the R4, but now I don'tneed to look where the kite is, I always feel it. When jumping, I don't look up anymore.
Great lift and hangtime, but also if you yank it around it turns fast for powerfull kiteloops.
You will not regret it if you choose the X4 14.
The 12 is also a jumping machine, but as next and smallest kite I fly the Boxer 10, which is also stable during the jumps, high and long, didn't expect so much hangtime from a Boxer.

I'm happy that the X4 14 replaces my R4 12+16, since I prefer to have 3 kites only, and the X4 14 has the pros of both kites.

I hope that helps.

Toby, did you compare the 18 or 20 X4 to the Rhino2 2 20m?
Speed, bar pressure etc.

the X4 20 is ver similar to the R2 20.
Still the R2 20 jumps better (for me).
The X4 18 is much faster and easier to fly then both 20.
For lighter persons the better choice. And starts due to its turning speed almost as early as the 20.
