The large scale destruction is astonishing as are the lingering and expanding impacts. I wasn't aware that Google had put this together. Thank you for posting it.
More lower resolution aerial photos of the damage appear at:

Red Cross calls for 40,000 volunteers
'We're not going to be able to fix this overnight
Saturday, September 10, 2005; Posted: 8:29 p.m. EDT (00:29 GMT)
BATON ROUGE, Louisiana (CNN) -- The American Red Cross put out an urgent call Saturday for 40,000 new volunteers to help feed, house and comfort Hurricane Katrina victims.
"This is a disaster of such scope and such significance, it's not going to go away in a few weeks or a few months," Red Cross spokesman John Degnan said.
"We're putting out an appeal to people to step forward and volunteer so they can be trained."
It was the largest recruitment drive in the organization's 125-year history.

Interesting points Gary. Still people may need a helping hand at time of overwhelming crisis. Appeals have appeared on the Forum in times past as you must know. You should be able relate to the need for help in your country and response if you look back in time. Natural disasters are apparently rare in your area, a good thing. The last big flood was in 1953? Hopefully the next one will be a century off or better still, never. If people want to help, they will and thank you very much for your assistance. If not, so be it.
