My gear arrived ( after a thorough man handling at the border ) from Best ( you's guy's rock! ). I have the trainer kite, I've even taken it out flying for 3 hours. Now the only question I have is:
What should I be practising?
Mostly I have been making sine wavy patterns across the wind window, and lots of figure 8's from one side to the other and really tight little figure 8's, I think I've got it covered.
Have I missed any really important practice elements?

Try doing figure 8s in only one side of the wind window (right or left)
Sounds like you've already got good kite control though which is the main thing to be learning.
Oh, and we all practiced kiting with the bar reversed to get a feel for when you let go of the bar and pick it up again the wrong way around. Generally more for fun than any real use though

yes, take a lesson. I don;t say this to be mean, but if you have the chance...take a lesson. Otherwise and I think this should only be in cases where lessons are unavailable...buy a training DVD...
If you bought your equipment from Best they will sponsor part of your lesson..or atleast they used to.

I don't live anywhere near a kite school. The nearest one I could find was an 11 hour drive from here. I'm pretty much on my own.

Its winter 10 months of the year where I live. In my back yard I have a 4 mile x 2 mile field with close to a foot and a half of very nice fluffy snow. I intend to snow kite for a while before I set foot in water.
Thanks,

Fly it until you can fly it with your eyes closed and feel where it is instinctively. Fly it is gusty wind while you are tying your shoe with the other hand. Sign it while you are walking on a wall or balence beam. When it becomes mostly feel then you are ready for a big kite. This shouldn't take you more than about 8 - 10 hours.

Have you tried the Snow/Land forum on this site? They might have a better idea and there's probably people who've been in the same position as you.

Yup, I posted there to see if there are any kiters near me, there are some a few hours drive from here. I'll keep practicing with the trainer until I can meet up with them and learn some more.
