many kiters do it in Brazil during full moon...really bright.

Some put glow sticks into the kite and onto the board to see them even better.

Cool thing...but nothing for me...I need to see where I am landing ;-)
But for back and forth no problem :thumb:

I done a full moon kite on Boracay last year with a few guys... really good fun but a little nervy with about 5m of beach before the palms. Toughest bit was spotting the other kites when heading towards each other. Very cool sensation jumping in the dark as you don't know when your gonna hit the water!

We dw in São Luís - Brazil through out the year by night. (sea)
Very cool time! Rules are never more than 3 in the pack, high tide by 19h, never go beyond the first incoming crest of wave.

Full moon is a must but it's also common dw in any moon, because it's a matter of high tide and the reflex of public spotlights on crests of waves.

We apply waterproof lights on boards and leds on kites.

There is always public on boardwalks admiring and by the end point.

You dont just go back and fourth....

Riding waves full on down the line can be awesome, and you can actually feel the wave, without looking at it.

And as mentioned - when there are wave crests, just a slight light from shore will make it easy to see out there - has done this often both windsurfing and kitesurfing, in waves.

Needless to say you dont go out in big waves, and only at locations you know inside out, and the fewer out the safer.

It can be a thrill though - especially if you start in the evening, and your eyes slowly adapt to the dark when night.

Having a full moon can be a problem sometimes, as you might be able to watch clearly when riding towards the moon - but when turning around EVERYTHING gets totally dark.
Of cause accomodation takes time and makes it even more drastic just when you turn around, but will be better after a while - but because there are no reflections in/on the water, you are most likely not be able to see anything at all after the turn :(

So the position of the moon (IF any moon) is very important and can make it much better or much worse is my experience.

DONT sail far out towards a bright moon, as you might not be able to see anything at all when you turn around - be careful
It is better if cloudy, and close to a city - as the clouds will reflect the light and you will have no contrast problems when changing direction.

... on same holidays I mentioned earlier after a massive all day kite session, tired drunk and hungry we stumbling back to hotel when my son meets up with his other grom mate and ask if they can grab dinner back at the beach,,, yeah yeah, be back by 9pm,,,, ok thanks,, so off they go.

Next morning getting ready for another big day, I trip over a wet pair of shorts out the front of the hotel on the floor, all wet and soggy. Hmmm, how did they get here, must have dropped em. I ask my son what happened to his shorts and he sort of "ahhhh not sure ". Off to the beach we go. Later on while waiting for the wind to pick up one of the locals says to me they found my sons board. Ummm, I didn't know it was missing I say to him. "Oh, he went for a kite last night and left it near the water, we found it this morning about to float away!" W T F!

I ask my son again, did you go for a kite last night,,,,, long pause,,,, "yes I did", "and we put cylume sticks on the kite too,,, was way wicked and really windy" he blurted. I was upset but not for the resons you might think.

"Karl, why didn't you get me", I say to him. "Am I not in trouble", he asked. "Nah dude, just in trouble for not waking me up for a kite too,,, next time get me up too."

The little buggers went to dinner and the wind came back up, they decided to go out again for a sneaky night kite, especially since it was a good 20 knots,,,, why not they figured. Mind you, mum wasn't so easy on him, gave him a few angry words,,,, "just like your damn father" I heard her say! Oops! I told him if he's going to do a sneaky crime, better clean up ya mess and don't leave evidence behind!!!!

cheers,

Robbie

Bwa'Hwahaha ! Nice one, Robbie; that's a cool son you got!

Yeah, I love moon sessions to the max !!! Think about it - it can turn into a sun rise session; swe'eet !
If you get a spot with flat water you can even close your eyes and doze off a bit if you're really tired(the chop section will wake you up) :naughty:

and this is where you can get hurt badly...this is why I don't do it...you need to have the right tension in the legs when landing...
