Handle pass video..Suggestions?? Try it??

Postby dandamangs » Wed May 24, 2006 2:42 am

Ok, so i've read the handlepass posts and I've been practicing in the back yard. I can do it 10 out of 10 without the board. Only 6 out of 10 with the board. It doesn't look anywhere near as good as when other people do it.

Take a look at the videos and give me suggestions. What am I doing wrong? How do I make it look better? I'd like to nail this trick soon! Should I try it on the water?

I still have not attempted the handlepass in any form. But my question is is this the first hadlepass trick we should trying at first? Meaning the handlepass during a kite assisted jump.

As to your question to whether you should go for it. DO IT, as I see it, the chances of getting injured are way more significant doing it on the ground. Go moderate with your jump and Im sure you'll get it sooner than you expect.

GOOD LUCK!!!

Morfin:

Besides the surface handlepass, I think this is the first handlepass trick you should try, but not 100% sure.

your almost there :D . the only thing you need to do is on your bar in the yard hang with your knees bent before passing the bar. the way your doing it right now is a bit easier then it will be. boosted handlepasses are the easiest but keep track of wich hand your passing from and too. i find its easiest passing to my back hand on small kites and my front hand on large kites. the little ones will loop as you come down and give you some speed through the landing. with the bigger kites stalling or swinging under the kite is easier so getting the kite back infront of you is good. the style will come but it will never look very good on a bar hanging from a tree.

Only watched the 2nd one.

Points to make it better - actually get the bar in the other hand...

Seriously, though, you should be able to do the trick the way you're doing it (on land, hanging) moderately slow. Obviously, it's easier to jump up to the bar and try to pass it behind your back, but try this instead: Slowly pull yourself up until the bar touches your hip on the side you want to pass from. Yea it's hard, that's why you practice it. Then, once you're up there, try snap the bar around your back. Usually the spin comes from yanking the bar to your hip, but when you're hanging it doesn't work the same.

It's not the same as on the water, because you want the pass to be fluid and when you do a jump on a kite if you time the pass right, you'll feel like you weigh less (making it easier).

I guess what I'm trying to say is don't try to SNAP the trick to learn it. The more you practice missing the bar, the more you'll have the wrong movements programmed into your head. Start slow, then when you have it, it'll speed up on it's own because you don't have to "think" the move through, your muscle memory does the work.

Guess I rambled a bit, but hopefully you get the point.

Jason

PS - Besides surface 3s (which I don't recommend learning, they don't teach you anything you can't learn by passing a stick behind your back) try doing hop to blinds. You'll get a bit more comfortable facing away from the kite. And landing blind is a prerequisite for more advanced moves.

Here is a video i did. Not very good and i have discovered that it's more realistic if u run forward and then do the trick.

The thing is when u do a usual handlepass u have to swing dont push with your legs, it's more realistic then. Also u are doing the gay kind of dingling handlepass :P

Thanks for the vid! Very helpful actually, I'll keep practicing. Oh yeah, and i know, they're gay, but hey you have to start somewhere.

So to recap from everyone:
1. Don't jump from the ground like I did (cheating, didn't realize I was jumping)

2.Go slower (harder) and make sure to make the grab so as not to learn the wrong movements.

3. Dangling handlepasses are gay. :D

Thanks guys...

Dangling is gay :p but there is 2 ways if doing it and one of them is more gay :P The one u do (kinde of gay), and the one I do (not that gay) in the film where I wing up without touching the ground. That’s the one u should go fore. The one u are doing looks bad and I think it is harder :P

Also I can tips u to train arms, shoulders and abs. when I have the wetsuit and the board it will be harder.
