A regual danforth anchor will not be reliable enough in sand no matter what line legth is used, the kite can fall backwards and power up on the opposite side pulling the anchor out. The wonbat looks like it could work. I am interested in trying it out!

All I know is that I use this system all the time and have no problems what so ever. If the wind is high I usually reattach the leading edge anchor and leave the kite face down in the water. Lots of guys have attached to a oh shit line on my other set ups and have not had a problem.

Jahmi,
At my kite spot there can be some wave action plus gusty winds.. that might be the difference. I did several tries with different steups but was not successfull. The wonbat anchor looks like it might work much better. I will let you know next summer after I try it!

Zilla...thanks for the info. Your projects and articles are the best kiteboarding info on the net. I noticed you used the stainless screws. Why not glue? I'll have to look for one of those heavy duty pvc cutters. The one I found at the Depot was junk...M

kitezilla
which SLE kites you use that have the 5th line option, or how do you modify the SLE kite to add the 5th line?
Thanks,
Daniel

kitezilla,
Thanks for the reply! I also like the idea of the 5th line but I don't like the consequences it brings if/when the kite inverts. That is one of the reasons I have not modified my Cabrinha kites yet...
I had an idea of adding a mini-5th line. i.e. a line that attaches to one of the front lines about halfway up and it will come all the way down to the bar as a regular 5th line would. This system would allow you the safty of the 5th line but not the consequences... if you release the kite on the mini-5th line the kite will flag immediately on one of the front lines! This will be similar to the front line safty but with the advantage of having the attachment point on the rider side of the bar instead of having to put the leash above the depower strap!
I have not tried this system yet, so I am not sure how good it will work, but at least the theory looks good to me!
Daniel
