don't take hydrogen, for god's sake!

didn't you listen in physics class?

just check out:
if you fill a baloon with helium, it can carry a postcard. two is already too much.
now check how many postcards are as heavy as a kite (at least 2kg) and how many ballons you'll need to lift this number of postcards.
now you know how many helium would be needed to lift a kite.
when you're at this stage, take a short look and guess how much air fits into your tubes.

result?

Please do this in a non smoking area. Did you ever see the Hindenburg landing on flames film?

helium's for whimps

you do one of the most extreme sports that ever hit the surface of this planet (exept tow-in surfing, but that's more challenging your fate than sport) and fill your kite with whimpy - non reacting helium, so your kite wouldn't explode by the lightest spark?
