Wakeskate

Postby JGTR » Thu Feb 08, 2007 12:14 am

Hi all, I've been looking for a strapless board like what Lou Wainmain (sp?) rides and cant seem to find one.
I don't want a skim as they are too big and I don't want to be limited to lightwinds.
I've looked at a "Wakeskate" but they seem really really heavy and chunky.
The only thing I can think to do is to griptape my 128 SS Misfit, byt it doesn't have the concave that I would like

If anyone is using a wakeskate or similar then I'd be interested in hearing about it :-D

Cheers
Jay

I have a similar problem as well, and all I'm finding is skimboards.

if Lou is riding it then it might be a Jimmy Lewis board so contact Jimmy and see if he'll make you one.

I'm looking for something like the Liquid Force Impulse wakeskate meets the Shinn Skimboard. Like a Wakeskate for lightwind, yet something I could use in stronger wind with a smaller kite.

-More rocker than the Shin skim.
-Straighter size cut like the Impulse.
-Pronounced Concave on the top like the Impulse/skateboard decks so you can really dig the edge into the water if you position your foot properly.
-Foam or grip-tape top. I like grip-tape with skate shoes, but foam is nice too.
-Two small fins like the Shinn skim.

yeah, a WIDE light wind wake skate would be awesome!!! Right now most are in the 100-110cm range and not that wide which isn't exactly light wind.

Would be cool to have a 130 or so by 50cm or so to goof around on, not sure how well it would work though? Might need quite a bit of rocker to keep the tips from digging in?

I would say 142x42 would be pretty good.

Yeah, still wouldn't be as good as a skim for light winds though. It needs some rocker or it'll pearl I'd guess. But it'd be a hell of a lot better than a 100cm toy. :o

I like the skims since they can be FLAT having the nose tipped up, but I"m not sure if you could flip the tips and have enough flat area on a wakeskate to give you good low end. I guess it'd be similar to a "regular" twin tip with the novelty of no straps?

How about something like the LF Skimskate? I've got one and it's good light wind fun. Size is about 150 x 45. A directional bias but can be ridden both ways. Big but still possible to do shuvits, etc.

a WIDE light wind wake skate would be awesome

No no no no no no no no!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm after a wake SKATE (the clue is in the skate part).

What you want is a surfboard.

Max 132cm....any bigger and it won't be as skaty, and I wan't to be able to ride it powered up.

Basically a thin wood board with decent rocker and concave, I'd convert my old kiteboard but it hasn't got and concave.

I'm on the case anyway 8)
Wil let you know what I get :P
