Kiteboarding in the Camp Lejeune area

Postby Jurriaan » Fri Oct 12, 2007 2:37 pm

Unexpectedly, I have to be in Camp Lejeune North Carolina next week.

Any tips on where i can ride, what the wind most likely will be and water temperatures?

Looking for flat water more than for waves. Haven't done any waves yet.

I might take thursday and friday off to stay in the area, would hatteras be a good idea?

Thanks for all tips.

You have many options. To the south is Wrightsville Beach. To the north is Emerald Isle and Atlantic Beach. AB is best on a S/SW wind, is a bit rare for this time of year. Wrightsville good on N/NE wind. More likely to be happening in Oct. Hatteras can handle any wind direction. Most likely any wind will be associated with a cold front and will be north wind.

Water temp about 74f.

A couple of shops to call: http://www.gokitesurf.com in Wrightsville Beach and http://www.kiteboardnow.com in Emerald Isle.

Have fun

Richard is correct. Emerald Isle and Atlantic Beach are probably closest for you but really are best for S/SW winds and is mostly ocean riding unless you have a boat.

We are in Wrightsville Beach and we can ride any wind direction except NW. We ride ocean a lot but do have some flat water spots depending on the wind direction.

If you are thinking about coming down this way feel free to contact us at the shop 910-509-9989 or hunter@gokitesurf.com and we can let you know what the wind is doing and where is best to ride.

You can check out http://www.surfchex.com for live local wind conditions.

Hatteras does have more flat water and is good on any wind direction but it will be a much longer drive so up to you.

Hope that helps.

I used to live at Lejeune, back in the windsurfing days, Hatteras is about 4+ hours, of which 2hr-2:30 min is by ferry from Cedar Point to Ocracoke, 20 min ferry ride to from Ocracoke to Hatteras. Better off going to Wilmington.
