(2) The Surgical Tube Locked Gate:

The surgical tubing (Latex Hose) used is: OD 3/8", ID 1/4"

The hose slides easily when it is wet, but still stays in place quite well.

(3) The Poly Tube Locked Gate:

The poly tube (pvc clear) used is: OD 3/8" ID 1/4"

(4) The Accordian Boot Locking Gate:

This may be the best idea of all the above, but I have not completed the project, but here are some pictures of the covering, I plan on using....still on my bike. Ten of these boots can be purchased for about $7, at the following link:

Cool ideas, I did something similar. I got a piece of engine hose smaller than the diameter of the clip and cut it down the center. The hose is very stiff so it stays on even cut, but allows the clip to open and close without moving it.

I stated in the first post that this proper locking carabineer will not be as popular as the ones sold by the major manufacturers, because it is not as user friendly... the gate is not as wide, and big fingers get in the way. However, it is the one I would use.

You may have noticed that the style carabineer, sold with the Best leash, which I have modified is not the same as the one sold by Cabhrina and Slingshot and Naish, and others. That carabineer has a bent wire gate, and therefore, needs a different type of modification to lock it.

I hope someone else will pursue the locking of this type of shackle, and post a description of their solution to the problem.

I think the point is to make it so the clip will NOT open with the tube in place. BTW, cold and not so windy last weekend, no?

Yeah, I know mine isnt as "locked in" as the others but I wanted it that way. The way I have mine set up it just makes it hard for the clip to open up accidentaly as you have to apply a decent amount of force to open and close it. I can still get it open without having to see it or slide anything out of the way if i want though. I just personaly like being able to get everything away from me without any hastle if I want/need to.

oh, and yes last weekend sucked, I'm really dying for some wind
