First Kiteloops: waist harness or seat harness?

Postby Wind Breaker » Thu Jan 03, 2008 10:38 pm

Working up the courage to try my first kite loops this season. Wondering whether I should try them with my seat harness for a little extra safety for my back. But also wondering whether the seat harness will hamper the actual execution of the loop. Just looking to do them hooked in for starters. Any other tips for my first kite loops?

Start off a little underpowered. ie. Planing and staying upwind, easy jumps but not big airs.

Wear the harness you are most used to. Seat harnesses are generally much more comfortable.

Cruise along and do a jump by sending the kite up.

When you're in the air turn your feet and board as if you're doing an air gybe and going to head the other way. This sets your board up for the downwind landing surge.

At pretty much the same time pull hard on your back hand and loop the kite. Don't wimp out on pulling the back hand or you'll get splattered.

At first you will land and the kite will finish the loop with you riding on the surface. As you get better and more confidence you will get the kite around and it will pull you out of the air in a nice fast downwind landing.

You can practice the looping move without the jump if you want so you get the feel.

You can also practice by doing air gybes and looping the kite on landing.

Don't bother with a backroll during the loop because you miss out on seeing the loop and half the fun of doing it is watching what is happening while you're doing it. It also hurts more if you stuff up the loop half way through a back roll.

hi frineds
the description of OzBungy is perfect.
i strictly reccomend to try kiteloop unhooked.
in kiteloops the crash can be so hard that you can break your rip with the harness bar, nose with boom and knee.

unhooked is more safe.
an huge hug..and be brave

ive been riding for a while but some earlier hard landing from kiteloops kept me from getting them down..

this last weekend I finally went for it and was surprised how easy the 3 to 5 footers in medium winds were..

truly.. commitment is the key. as soon as you come off the water, move your front hand to the other side of the bar and PULL as hard as you can.

small jump, pull hard and the kite will loop before you hit the water.. its probably the easiest thing ive done on a kite..

larger jumps w/ more speed are tons more intense of course.. but to get the basic jump w/ loop down its all about committing to the loop.

i'd recommend a seat harness... if you crash you get laid out and with a waist harness it can be yanked up quite a bit.. seat harness will stay put.

Are you kidding me? Waist harness.

No mobility in seat harnesses

additional to the good description above, i'd recommend that after you've mastered the low powered hooked in moves, you'll grab all your courage and try it unhooked.
usually, everyone likes the unhooked kiteloops a lot more - but it takes more balls to try them at first - the big advatntage is that you can work you body more to compensate the boost and you're able to let go if you hit it a bit too hard.

to answer your question: take the harness you feel best with, it's more down to personal taste ... an impact vest is a good idea, too.

the kiteloop is all about timing and commitment - and an effective way to obtain big quantities of adrenaline when you're cruising around with a little lack of power for high jumps

kiteloops

if your on a bow just ride fast and crank the bar - do it hard and you might get some air

or jump first then loop the kite - it will loop better

if you want an adrenalin rush do it on a c
