New to Kiteboarding, what kind of gear to get?

Postby Hellz » Thu Jan 24, 2008 12:52 am

Hey everyone, I just started kiteboarding and decided I really like this sport. But I am having trouble with buying gear. Really only the kite, bar, and lines.

My intructor is pushing me to fork out 1600 US dollars for a kite, but I do not have that kind of cash at the moment. I am looking to spend around 1,000 MAX..I would like to go lower I could...

I weigh 175 pounds and am 6ft 1....

I live in florida and the wind usually is around 12-20 usually when I go out there. I have flown a 8,10, and a 12 kite......

I am just wondering what are good kites from 2007-2008 to buy? And what should I look to pay for them?

I am looking to do jumps and tricks in the near future, I grew up snowboarding but moved to FL, no snow...so i gotta keep on a board.

So if anyone could please give me advice, I have been looking on ikitesurf.com but I just do not know what is good and what to look for....thanks alot

Rob

Used Gear
Close Outs

You'd hard pressed to beat the price point of the Best Waroo for a lower priced 08 kite. And that's only the price. Things only get better when you compare performance.

I would shop around for a deal on an 06/07 Switchblade or a Royal Era. Both great kites.

don't do it! he just needs the commission/kickback to pay for a trip to the caribbean ;-)

avoid 2008 - for a beginner on a budget, you'll never know the difference between an 07 and 08 kite and your kites will take a beating anyway. Go to ikitesurf.com and click on the buy/sell page. You'll see used '07 Waroos for about $400. Or you can pay a little more for new 2007 closeouts.

Check out the 2007 Slingshot Links. You can get the 15 and 9 meter for 400 bucks complete at http://www.xlkites.com/slingshot-link-c ... p-196.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. I just got a 15 and it's great. Full depower, great safety system, simple relaunch and it also has the 5 line conversion kit. They got a bad rep due to a poorly tuned bridle, but they now ship with re-tuned red ones that work just fine. The price is unbeatable too. Other sites have them for similar prices, maybe cheaper. Good luck

try and demo as many kites as possible then go look for a '07 or '08 Thruster 16m, I can tell you where to get one for a lot less than 1600.00. The Thruster is a very good light wind kite but can handle the higher winds.

go here http://www.eclipsekites.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and select the Cable/DSL version of the site. Watch some of the vids

hehehe I hot launched my Thruster 16m while is was attached for my 500 lb ATV in 17 knots hehehe jerked that damn thing 8' in the air and it landed 15' from me, I'll never do that again......

Thanks!....

Well I can prolly return the 07 Naish Torch 3 if you guys think 700 bucks is a rip off for a complete....

But I still am on the edge about a bow kite or a C kite.....

Could anyone clue me on which is better

Also if that torch 3 deal was an okay deal let me know so I wont return it.

Thanks,

Rob

Hi,
The Torch3 is awesome kite just use the KF search feature...
About the price I wish I could help but I`m not aware of the second hand price levels where you live,
all I can say is that, this price is about normal here in Bulgaria although the average wages here are much lower..

Regards,
L.
