Guess the kite?

I have a new kite, below/equal the 10m mark that flies really well, quick, powerful and is used mainly in the surf but seems to a have one flaw - if sheeted out quickly or flown at Zenith with backlines loose it can Hindenburg. The next size up I hear does not Hindenburg.

The reason why I am posting this is to see if the responses are correct, if it is, then it is not my flying skills but the kite ( I can't believe a manufacturer would overlook this or release a fully untested kite, which would make me loose faith in the company).

I am not being funny with this post, I just want unbiased responses and don't want to put a stigma on the kite manufacturer with an unfactural statement.

08 or 07 year model?

if its 07 I'm guessing its a 9m link or 12m hypertype. I've flown the link and it works fine, but is sketchy overhead. Read the same about the HT quite a few times. Have heard both ss and rrd have it fixed in their 08 models.

Could you have your bar set up with too much rear line slack? Not trying to make excuses but some kites just really like a little rear line tension at all times, and a quick knot change on the leaders is all it takes to stop the problem from happening at all.

Its an 08 and only been around for a few years.

If its a backline tension issue, how much tension do you put to guaranty that it won't luff and to make it easy to walk the kite back upwind? What happens when you drop the bar? If you fly the kite slightly powered with the bar fully sheeted out and a gust comes through you may get boosted or straight after the gust the kite luffs and falls - haven't flown the kite enough to experiment.

Have a look at the kite when its overhead and put a little light tension through the bar to see if the kite behaves. If so, shorten up the back lines or pull down the stopper if you have one. Not so much that you lose overall depower. one or two inch increments until it flies properly at the window edge.

Then again maybe its the kite! The 08's Ive flown (only about 5 different brands) are all pretty stable and drift back in the window after gusts. Lots better than the kites of two and three years ago. There were a lot of kites you had to keep tensioned and moving back and forth to keep from overshooting and falling.

Kinda funny that the better kites get the less skill it takes to fly em and newer people to the sport don't easily develop all those reactions that can save your booty when things start to go wrong.

With todays kites you barely have to know how to edge! Used to be the only way to kill some power. In fact we used to have to occasionally do a quick burn at the kite or downwind to get the kite out to the edge when it got hairy. Don't see much of that anymore.

SH!t, I must be old.

There is no Caution Answer in 2008. Check their webpage. For 2008, their SLE is called Mayhem, and from the only one I have seen and flown on land once, it is an pretty good kite. The Answer 2006 did exhibit some of what kitecrasher talks about. From my experience, it was only on the 16, which I have. The Answer 16 was not a beginner or intermediate kite. I don't have any problems with it though. It is pretty fast, and I know how to fly it for my taste. Traig Trumbo had a pretty good write up on it.

Well so far nobody is right, it does have a similar profile to 1 of the RRD kites. I have only flown it a couple of times (makes me a bit nervous), maybe its me or maybe its the kite (I can't believe a 2008 kite could do this or not get properly tested especially if its one of their flagship products).

NO correct answers so must be me or there is just not alot out there!
