Time to spend some more money... Eclipse Thruster?

Postby Mr_Weetabix » Fri Aug 15, 2008 3:23 am

... but not too much, and don't tell the wife. :D

I'm going to be in the US in a few weeks, and I've noticed that there are some great deals on '08 gear going at the moment, so I'm thinking of picking up another kite for the days when the 12m XBow3 is just a little too much.

I'm thinking Eclipse Thruster, either 8m or 10m. The 8 would give me stacks of extra range, but I wouldn't use most of it - we rarely see more than 25 knots out here. So I'm thinking the 10m - more overlap with my 12, but more capacity for staying out on the same kite when the wind's fluctuating around 20 knots.

But... I've heard that the 8's got lots of low end for a small kite, and it's cheaper (cheap is good - the number of 20 knot + days I get doesn't justify spending too much), and it takes up less space in the bag.

I'm 190lbs, holding upwind, sorting out transitions and getting ready for my first deliberate jumps.

So, Thruster 8m or 10m, or something else?

I would say go for the 10m because you weigh 190lbs and it rarely blows over 25. The 8m does have really great low end but you would get more use out of a 10m Thruster. Also i think the 10m is the best flying size in the range of Thrusters. :thumb:

I'd second what singlemalt says. You'll love the 10m.

It's very different from a Cabrinha !!! Maybe you should try one. Personally I ride RRD Obsession and love them. But if you like your Cabrinha, a Switchblade in 10m is also a very nice kite!

YEA the Thruster turns fast! so what you got tired of pimping royals now your on a rrd :nono: the guy was asking about the Thruster 10 the only problem with the thruster 10 is you might start jumping over other kites :thumb:

I ride the thrusters and I can tell you that you need to get the 8m the 12 can depower plenty and can be used when others are on ten meter kites. I have a 8 10 and 14 and I rarely get to use the 10 its either pumping and if its under 20 then i use the 14. The wind range is incredible I can go faster and be more powered on my 14 then on my 17m and can stay out on the 14m (with just a simple line adjustment ) when others are on 10's.

Thats just my 2 sense take it for what its worth.
