The methods are described very well above.
Let me add another method of self landing that can work very well. Simply find a large object like a building or bluff or bunch of bushes and put your kite behind (downwind). Then it will fall safely on the ground. Obviously not every beach has these, but where possible this is a very easy and safe method. Sometimes people forget to look for this option.
