Eh?

I don't know Barry, I'd guess the guy (kk) is closer to you or I or any of my half wit friends, than some sort of bazaar exception...

I mean look at Neil, just as big or bigger whack job than any of us, yet he's billed as some kind of legend by Toby?

Go figure? there's a slippery schnitzel for ya?

Seriously, how about the mags? it's all about bad boys pushing their envelopes...

So these three buzz monkeys put their lips to trough and slur-up a beat down of our beloved turtle boy...

no fucking way...

bad form, and kind of representative of the kick him, he's down, kick him in the head, he may hurt our bottom line, mentality of who's really out there (pun intended) calling our shots...

now that's the real bad news

LOL, (not a bit funny) we're just so hopelessly fucked....for real, I tell ya, for real...

I just might file a complaint, but who to send it too?

see? that was the leadership team...LOL

glad it's just my hobby...

kk was towing the party line, "I'm stoked" "it's all good" "can't wait to go do it again"---"want a lesson?"

That's the party line, the party line of the very same three guys who planed this public lynching..

and for good measure, to cover the safe thing, through in the QR bs dodge

why? what else could it be?

their personal business interests maybe?

it's a dirty business that sells the go for it tude then kicks the go for it dude.

Kevin is their collective creation

now they want to disown him?

f*** that, that's sleezy

I think Neil forgot a very important thing- You also need to learn from the mistakes of others.
you can find a lot of info about safety here and at the other forums.
there is no better learning than learning from your own mistakes but from some of them you won't be kiting again, so the best next thing is the mistakes of others.

Great interview, thanks Toby.

afflatus,

Sorry mate but I do not think anyone is paying attention to your rants. By the way grow up a little and stop using the f-bombs. It detracts from your message. Use some of your intelect and be more creative.

lame interview...

at least the ft lauderdale guy can say it was a stupid accident. his TV interview really WAS really where he screwed up.

but this neil dude did a far more stupid thing getting lofted 50feet or whatever ON PURPOSE and then crashing (video's somewhere on the internet).

so now he's this slurring safety evangelist legend? gimme a break.. there's no way i'd recommend anyone getting a lesson from this guy.

100% agree with fokiten, every single kitesurfer is acting stupid, pulled by a kite in 30 kts wind???

c'mon ask any "sane" person and they'll say you have a death wish.

Is lofting a nice way to say I fucked up?
It looked to me like the turleboy hucked a look at me jump and caught a big gust
just like so many do in the shallows
near shore.

Ya those 2 in that interview
seemed pretty stupid
and not much of a representation
of the rest of us who don't get slammed into buildings

what this neil dude do was tie himself to a jetski and getting dragged 100 odd feet up. then dropping like a rock on the shallows.

you can see it here: http://kiteflix.com/index.php?video_id=68

makes kevin look like a genius and safety guru.

The rules of judgement seem pretty easy:

(1) If you blow it, you're in over your head and are an "irresponsible kook,"
(2) If you pull it off, you're "pushing the limits"

Good judgement should be the same in either case. Going out in conditions like that are more dangerous than normal... that's it. The consequences of screwing up are a bit higher because of the higher wind. The likelihood of screwing up is much higher because of the gusts and wind changes. Bascially, the odds are more against you. That's it. That's all there is to it. Higher odds of serious injury in those conditions.

If a pro were to go out and blow it on those same conditions, he/she would be the same "irresponsible kook" that Kevin was. Rule #1 is the common hindsight evaluation of the action, "If you blow it, you're in over your head and are an irresponsible kook." Everyone "pushes the limit" until they become an "irresponsible kook."

I see no difference between either accident, both of them didn't expect it to happen.

You could forgive Neil, because it was gear failure, (compounded by gravity defying failure)
You can forgive Kevin because it was lack of experience and common sense failure.

It's time to stop raking over this shit. People make mistakes and bad choices everyday, let it go.
