Travel Setup Split Board

Postby Okinawa Kiter » Thu Dec 19, 2013 3:29 am

Hey everyone,

Got my Nobile Split Board yesterday and tried it out on my Speed 3 12m. I think this is the perfect 1 kite 1 board setup for travel At 100 Kgs I can get going in 11 knots up to about 28. Sure not a wave or wake kite but it's enough to have a ton of fun on.

I am thinking of designing a travel bag the fits this setup but of course you can put whatever kites in the bag, so will design the bag to fit up to 3 kites and this board and clothes, so only 1 bag to carry.
I was wondering if there would be much interest in a bag like this? My goal is the bag would look like a regular roller suitcase but has enough room to include your gear, It wouldn't be much bigger than a regular roller suitcase maybe just a tad taller. I can pack my Speed 3 12m down to the same size as a kite pump using wide Velcro straps.

Myself I travel a lot for work but not willing to carry a big board bag around as I am not sure I can get any kiting in or not, but often could. So it doesn't look or feel like you are lugging gear around.

You could have this just sitting in your bag ready to go.

A short vid of me on the board.

Are you using the 137 or the 134cm board. I too am 100kg and am thinking even the 137 would be too short for me.

It's a 137. Big enough I feel. Haven't tested in the light stuff yet. Probably hard to beat my T5, but probably close.

Sweet! Can you buy the kite without bar? My speed 3 is all connected as one, It would be nice if you could have 1 bar and 2 or 3 kites for the flysufer.

No, you can't. Flysurfer sell the foils with bar included, only on the tube model you can buy it kite only. Actually, the bar of the 10 and 8 mts Speed 4 has a difference between the central and side lines of 10 cms (central lines longer). I decided to carry the 12 mts bar and an extension for when I use the smaller sizes. In any case, it wasn't much trouble to connect/disconnect the bar from the kites each time I use them but when I went to the beach I always carried 2 kites folded and the bar on the same kite bag. And it's amazing how little space it takes and how light the whole kit is.

Almost the same quiver :
Newind TT split board (mutant) 138/42
Speed 3 12 DLX
Speed 4 DLX 8 & 10

When moving, depending purpose of my travel :
*If for holidays : board + 12 + 8 + 1 bar (the 12 bar works fine on the 8m), one harness, one impact vest, one neoprene = less 20kg (including the suitcase/ bag with wheels and few stuff as teeshirt, undewear, screw driver....)

*If for business travel near the water : just one kite (the S4 10 DLX) : less than 18 kg.
If I don't mention it, my travelling mates are not aware that I bring my kitesurf stuff with me.

Great for travelling without any surcharge fees, fit in any taxi/car ...

I also have a carbon Nuwind twin tip 140cm the lightest board I have ever owned. I have Dakine shorts harness with sliding spreader which can be removed to just be shorts for travel. Harness is the biggest thing to carry pretty much so opt for the best shorts setup. For me the 12m fits all wind conditions on either boards, maybe the Nuwind will get me going in 10 knots maaaaybe. I love the lightness of the Nuwind but prefer the Nobile board much more. My dream board would be a Nobile 2HD 137 full carbon split board.

I have Dakine shorts harness with sliding spreader
same for me

For a travelling one kite quiver I prefer in most cases the S4 10 DLX rather than the S3 12 DLX as it performs better in the waves but the counterpart is that you loose low end
