RRD obsession sizes

Postby Billy_Goat » Tue Nov 04, 2008 10:18 pm

Hello

I have the 10.5m RRD obsession and am thinking of getting the 9m and 12m, I weigh 13st (82kg) and ride 132cm airush x-pact in UK, conditions are chop to waves with anything from 10knts to 40+knts.

I know ther are a few with the 9,10.5 and 12m - my concerne is the 12m may never be used as i hear the 105m is plenty powerful, so do i go 12m or a bigger board to offset the difference. I like riding powered and love the float from 12's do you get the same float from the 10.5m or near ??

thanks

Really cant answer on the specific question. I got 9-10.5-12 m Obsession. However I haven't tried the 10.5m at all as I only use 9 or 12m. At 82 kg you should benefit from the 12m I am sure. The 12m is a really nice kite with very good power. Gets me (95 kg) going almost as early as my HT2 15m. But the basic grunt of the 15m is higher so better for tricks, jumping etc. in lighter winds where you will only go back and forth with a 12m kite.

For sure a lot more powerful than the 9m (of course) and must also be more powerful than a 10.5m....

You can still get more punch out of the 12. Now that I have all three sizes, I couldn't imagine not having all three sizes.

ANd what about if I weight 58 kgs? and ride between 11-35 knots? 128x38.5 custom made board. Would 10.5, 7 and 5 would suit me or would I need a 12m... I am deciding on which kites to buy and any input would be useful.

Thanks :naughty:

I would not think a 12m is needed for 58 kg! But maybe a light wind board to pair with the 10.5

These kites are so nice, i just recently started Using the Obsession and all i can say is that its the most excting kite i have flown since my 2004 Fuels!.
I have 12m 9m 7m and 5m, the fist kite i flew in the range was the 10.5m and this is what got me hooked, but i was a little unsure that it would be big enough in the lighter winds!. i am 78kgs and ride the Poison 134 x 43. and i decided to go with the 12m and i havent been dissapointed i can get going in 12kts on my 12m and i did have a session on it where the wind was gusting up to 28knts! got to admit i was Hanging on for dear life. but the kite handled really well in over powered conditions no dodgy flapping or Pinching!!. the joy of this kite overpowered is the Hangtime it produces its fantastic, build quality is top notch, if you do buy one drop the front lines down a few knots if you like the unhooked action as it does backstall a little, re-launch is super easy.
if you can go Demo one somewhere, or ask i guy who owns one for a quick fly as i am sure they would share the love!
this is my first time on RRD kites and i am really stoked.
i would suggest
12m and 9m for 78kgs and up
10.5m and 7m for the 78kgs and down
enjoy
if you are UK based then PM i am quite Happy to let people Demo my kites

Billy_Goat,
I weigh about the same as you and ride the 131x40 RRD Poison board. The 10.5m is a really nice size. I have the 9m, 10.5, and 12m and am glad I have all 3. If you can get all 3, definitely go for it, it is more fun riding to be perfectly powered for the wind conditions with more kite size choices. The 12m has good float and will get you better low end than the 10.5. I would say the low end is about 2-3 knots better on the 12m than the 10.5m. I find the 12m Obsession the biggest kite size I need, it will get me going in 10 knots and having fun. If you are going to be riding in 40knot winds, you will most likely need a 7m or 5m also :) I have had the 9m out in 26 knots (30mph) gusting to 30 knots (35mph) and it was time to move down to a 7m.

Doris,

For you I would recommend the 10.5, 7m, and 5m for the wind range you mentioned. You wouldn't need the 12m. The 9m would be nice also :)

Hey!!! thanks everyone... You have been very helpful! Where I live nobody has got these kites and therefore nobody could give me accurate information on them. But you have cleared my doubts.

Cheers!!!!!
