Please help: sign petition to recognize speed records

Postby Toby » Mon Dec 01, 2008 1:13 pm

The ISAF (sailing.org) does not want to recognize the breaking of the 50 knots barrier and the new speed records of kitesurfers. They do recognize kitesurfing as a sailing sport, and all speed events kept the rules given by the ISAF, but does not want to recognize the records from kitesurfers.

To show the ISAF and the world our disappointment and to put more pressure on the ISAF, please sign the petition, it will only take you 1 minute, or less!

Thanks, and hopefully honor will be give where honor is due!

hmmmmm

You refuse to accept the international and basic sailing right of way rules/laws because "kite surfing is different" but now you say the the sailing world should accept us?

So you want to be accepted into the sailing world but you want to pick and choose what parts?

I feel the speed record should be recognized and we should follow the established rules/laws.

who says we don't accept sailing rules? We do, don't we?

Maybe list those rules, so we know what we are talking about.

from viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2298329
"Remembering we are kiters in a sport unto ourselves, we are a combination of a lot of things which is why a lot of different rules can apply. "

"Those seeking official versions of the
Navigation Rules should refer to the International Navigational Rules Act of 1977 (Public Law 95-75, 91 Stat. 308, or 33 U.S.C. 1601-1608), and, the Inland Navigation Rules Act of 1980 (Public Law 96-591, 94 Stat. 3415, 33 U.S.C. 2001-2038). "

Short version
http://www.navcen.uscg.gov/mwv/navrules/rotr_online.htm

guess it might not apply anywhere else but USA?

Nice job Toby getting this petition started! It is absolutely biased not include kiteboarders as sailing vessels. We are on the water and powered by the wind. Thats all it should take. Some have chosen the route to build 100ft long vessels that use ultra high tech parts, foils etc. to go after this mark, but in the end it was back to basics, one athlete, one board and one kite that got us there. Everything else is opinion.

Thanks Again!

When you turn up to the speed sailing spot now and along comes a $5000000 full carbon catamaran up for the session make sure you bow your head and show some respect COS YOU ARE NOT WORTHY lol, yeah whatever. The best part of this is you can kite past them waving as they hit the new record - that's soooo funny!

ISAF have embarrassed fellow sailors and windsurfers and proven that they have no clue when it comes to kitesurfing. Good bye and good riddance! Stick to the sailing you know from your generation and we will continue to advance ours and everyone will be happy (well, maybe you will just stay grumpy).

Hi all.

I don't kitesurf but am a windsurfer. Most of us are fully behind the plight of kitesurfers where this record is concerned.

I know a few over at www.boards.co.uk forums have signed the petition and there is a thread currently running about it. Good luck with it. I do hope the ISAF and WSSR see sense and ratify the record soon.
